Good article or not it cant be denied its what happens on the pitch that decides the future of our club, Hughes has had two very goodplayer budgets we're told so that can't be used as an excuse,the Rupp situation is what it is he kept the club afloat after the Rahic fiasco and Covid, we are self sufficient with regards the running of our club, but if you don't get the one man who can make a difference with regards bringing success to our club, and that's not only Hughes who has been unable to get his squad to perform anything like we've had one good season since the take over and it could be argued Stuart had a very good squad left by Parky certainly players who would die for the cause, and Stuart added others he knew would do a job for him in other areas.
If we were seeing anything resembling football and being up around the play off place (yes I know its still early door) Rupp would not come into the discussion.

 

What gets me is how clubs like Crawley, and Swindon a couple of years ago, have hardly any players a couple of weeks before the season starts and then somehow cobble a squad together that goes on to do very well and, in the case of Swindon I believe, win promotion. Tiny clubs like Morecambe or Accrington have also done much better than us. We just seem to consistently sign poor managers and recruit poor players. It's bewildering how we get it all so wrong so consistently.

Jon should have held firm and flown it. I thought that at the time, even after Jon's explanation of the situation and absolutely nothing I've seen in the years since has changed my mind.

We'll never know, but it wasn't something Jon could ask the fans who'd contributed yes or no there wasn't time, I was told after the fly bye was scrapped it would have had significant consequences for the club, make of that what you will, I'm not sure I'd have wanted to make the call if it could have meant the owner walking away or running the club into obscurity.

 

I assumed it was Julian who made the call after a conversation with Rupp, I could be wrong but it sounded logical at the time.

 

Aye, the threats. That's keep all those horrible fans in their boxes.

Meanwhile, Rupp just keeps creaming off management fees and the odd bit of profit sound in the knowledge that a couple of threats of withdrawal will quell any murmurs of resistance.

 

We gave quite a lot of detail at the time, including the person on the other end of the phone - who posted on here.

@Fordy117 has since insisted it all took place via email, which definitely never happened and I've tried to correct him many times - but I'm not sure he really cares

 

Just looking at my PMs back around the time of the fly bye, I got a PM and told at the time (not by @JonButterfield) it was Julian who made the call.

 

I wouldn't have cared if it was the Pope, Mahatma Gandhi or Jesus Christ himself that made the call. That banner should have been up in the air and circling!

I remember on the day that the fly over was due to happen, waking up and feeling excited and quite a bit naughty. I told the Mrs what was planned to happen and she rolled her eyes with that kind of "That's nice dear" sort of look, and when I told her that a group of us had all contributed funds towards it, she marked us as hooligans! And then all of a sudden it wasn't happening and I had the feeling that something big was going down. Something to do with creating a bad impression for potential buyers or something. Was it WetherbyWhaler who made the phone call - I'm presuming he's the one on here who can see what is going on and has links to the board. Wasn't there some sort of pay off?

 

Not if the guy I got a PM from was correct he actually confirmed it was Julian.

 

Hindsight would say there was a fair chance I was right though.
