Apparently Durham police are looking again at the decision not to investigate Starmer for his beer at a 'workplace'. Labour party have confirmed Raynor was there as well after denying it previously. You would think they would get their story and fact straight if calling for Tories to resign.

I don't mind him going. As long as he goes via an election and not because the media have decided they can just make any politician's position untenable if they try hard enough. To me, an 80 seat democratic mandate still matters.

The Sunak fine for "Partygate" seems to have caused more issues for Labour than it did for the Conservatives.

If his behaviour is worthy of a fine then its almost impossible to distinguish between what he did and the Durham beer that Starmer had. In reality neither of the actions were worthy of any criticism at all but I suppose the danger of making a mountain out of a molehill is that you might have molehills of your own. Them lying about Rayner being there for months is simply plain weird too.

I think they would argue that he attended what the Met have decided was a party, even if innocently and only for minutes. The Durham one has still be classed as work by the local police

Does the opinion of the police matter when we're only talking about "guidance" rather than "law" at the time?

I mean. What Sunak attended isn't really a "party" by any reasonable definition in any case but if it overstepped the mark from a work event to a social event so be it. But if that's the bar for that crossover then the bar is very low!

Im guessing it was Law as fines have been handed out rather than guidance when fines can not be issued

But I don't think Starmers was? Maybe I'm muddled.

Not that it matters really. If you go 50mph in a 30 are you only doing something wrong if you go past a speed camera?

The fine will not effect Sunak, He will still be able to afford his new swimming pool with its £13,000 electricity bill to heat it at his Mansion in Richmond

Suppose it's even more interesting that two different forces have applied different interpretations of the rules to what looks like two very similar indiscretions then I suppose?

The police should be out fighting/solving real crime and be nowhere near any of these incidents....

someone said other day that the only retrospective investigation and fines issued in the country are for Downing Street events.

Im sure people were complaining that they were being treated differently, well that is now true. Wonder how much this has all cost

What is 'real crime' Tone? Someone nicking a bottle of whiskey from Asda? Or people in high office being able to flout pretty much any law they want at any time that suits them? Cos police moving beggers or the like is pretty low on my priority list these days.
