Well we don’t know what has happened, but @Mike Hunt is correct in his analysis, in thinking about discipline at the club. My first thoughts were, what the hell is a young player doing out that late at night on a match day. The offence took place 12th/13th August suggests an overnight incident. Relate this to the Macclesfield match, when players were left to decide who would take penalties, and Saturday match when players came back for drinks, no instructions or reassurances, with the coaches sat on the bench. It alarms me when there doesn’t appear to be anyone taking charge.

 

With regards the penalty takers deciding themselves who should take penalties and lack of input from the very man who should be making those sort of decisions, this is what good managers/coaches do prior to a game they have every situation covered as Louis van Gaal did in the penalty shootout against Costa Rica in the 2014 World Cup.
As extra time was coming to an end he made the substitution of Hollands No 1 goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen at 6'1", to bring on Tim Krul 6'4" who then went on to save 2 of the Costa Rica penalties, that is the sort of detail planning you expect from coachs/managers in charge of any team, never mind sort it yourselves lads whoever feels confident.

 

It’s good to give people responsibility to make their own decisions, so I can see why Collins did it. I do it with people who work for me, let them make their own decisions, but you have to steer them in the right direction, let things fall over when it doesn’t matter and step in when it does. Collins should have listened to their proposals for penalty takers and then influenced them to change their mind to what he wanted them to do if their choice was a shocker. That is leadership.

 

It was wrong to lump it in with the club’s problems yes. But it’s still a headache the club doesn’t need.

 

Not doubting what you’ve said about penalty takers deciding themselves/lack of input from Collins, but where did you see or hear that @Bronco?

 

How about forming a new club ‘FC Bradford’ and leave these clueless owners to rot along with their 5 million quid.
Won’t be any worse than where the current club is heading.

I don't mind that the players chose who wanted to take the penalties, that seems sensible to me because it's a pressure situation and the last thing you want to do is tell a nervous player that he has to take a kick.

However, deciding that the best order for the shootout involves the first 3 penalties being taken by 2 defenders and a defensive midfielder is absolutely bonkers.

The other thing that worries me is that we've hardly been banging in the goals so far this season or during pre season which means that we've lots of attacking players who are yet to get off the mark. Why weren't those guys pushing to the front of the queue to get their season up and running? If virtually our entire forward line is so nervous that they can't take a penalty in the first round of the League Cup then we've got a real problem.

 

Was he getting a pie in for the shoot out ? Or is the real reason that Collins wasn't there to give instruction because he was getting Edin a pie in. Where was our "real" head coach at the time ?

 

If you suggest that to Gordon Gibb, the new club might even get use of the ground.
