O'Connor throws armband in net...

Best 2018/19 thread EVA, I've taken just about FA interest in any other first team related threads this season.

A piddly armband, a piece of inconsequential nothingness, you couldn't make it up

 

Maurizio Sarri said he had dealt with the Kepa situation, and that was the end of it.

Then dropped him.

Sarri will tell you there's no issue, no problem, he loves Kepa, really happy with him, everyone's moved on, all is well.

This is football.

Official statements will paint a rosy picture.

Surely there aren't many people so gullible they believe O'Connor's story. Some will want hard, concrete evidence of his evil intentions and laugh at the significance of it; fair enough. That's their prerogative.

But if O'Connor gets pelters at the next home game from the people that DON'T believe him, well... that's just too bad. I wouldn't play him again this season, personally, but who knows who will make the call. If it's Drury, maybe he will leave him on the bench after all.

Fair dos I say. Sounds like a valid reason and he didn't look like he threw it down in anger.

Nothing that has happened since suggests anything other than intelligent, competent chairmanship from Mr Rahic, so that's well and truly a mountain out of a molehill!

Maybe I could agree about it being a valid reason if the armband had been visibly hanging off his arm or was sliding down his arm but it was still very much firmly in place over his sleeve when he reached for it and pulled it off. Akpan didn't seem to experience any issues with it when he picked it up and put it on either, but I guess that might have been because O'Donnell had time to repair it seen as though he had such a quiet afternoon.

 

Why? The players aren’t.

I do wonder why Drury was even given the game today.

However, we do need to fight mate. We can't afford to go down!

Tried to decipher what was being posted about this on the Cow's Arse site, but couldn't get passed the tourettes.

 

I think we've gone , especially after the last two defeats.
The club is like the country at the moment going through Brexit and is far too fractious.
From an owner who really doesn't want to be , Junior who again really doesn't want to be there.
Players whom at sight don't seem to give a toss.
The worring part for me is that we haven't hit the bottom yet, I thought we had and that December was the catalist for improvement.
Keep hearing we're too good to go down etc, but history has plenty of clubs whom were thought were too good to be relegated.
Just hope we don't go down again next year, the players still under contract next year and the alledged money there on is frightening and the losses we currently run are truly frightening.
A complete mess and skint.

Yet another load of tosh. Don’t believe a word of it. A few threads, and he removes and throws it into the net, give me a break, tuck them in and carry on.

 

I've been through 10 pages on this thread and it is interesting the number of different posters posting. On most threads we go through a couple of pages of tooing and froing with a couple of posters but aside from @Frank Castle making light of the situation or playing the devil's advocate most posters are unhappy.

It's interesting he has released a statement. That tells me he feels he needs to defend his position. He's probably come up with the best excuse he can but Akpan picking it up and wearing it later tells me he hasn't thought through his statement or didn't have all the details of what happened after he threw the armband away in order to come up with a viable reason for what he did.

Ultimately, we all know he's trying to defend himself. He knows what he did was questionable and wrong or open to interpretation.

For me, let's drop him and let's play young Reece. Reece can't do any worse than the crap being shown and he's one of our own. He'll give 100% for sure. If we're going down it needs to be with a fight and with players playing with pride. Young Connor did well today by all accounts and has done well most of this season when he's played. It's time to back our own lads. Can Patrick do any worse than Miller? Give him a shot too.

I can't get to home games and won't make it next weekend but I'll happily pay halves for someone who's swaying on going to go and stand and serenade O'Connor with several rounds of 'you're not fit to wear the shirt'. Genuine offer.

Or if it was genuinely coming apart, don't just throw it in the net when you are about to defend a corner. Waste a bit of time and upset Pompey's momentum by alerting the ref so that you can go to the bench for a replacement armband or to get it taped up.
