I thought one thing was worse than the alleged lack of effort... The lack of ideas.

We had a lot of possession, unchallenged by a side happy to sit back and with no intention of attacking in anything other than the occasional counter, and yet we looked as clueless as I have ever seen a City team.

I am sick of hearing soundbites about learning lessons or people sounding angry about performances - at this level, you cannot afford to give any ground to any team, and in terms of organisation, leadership and creativity we are well behind teams like Wycombe

Effort is an easy excuse.

Disorganisation and people blatantly not understanding the system or their role in it is not about effort.

Ask yourself, what the heck was Seedorf's role on Saturday? I don't mean what was he meant to be doing, I mean what was he actually doing?

And yet Miller was on the bench... WTF?

 

You're a hard man to please @Awol, first game back after pre season on a very hot afternoon most were blowing out of their arse sat watching the game .

 

I don't think that's the case, whatever the criticisms are for Collins - and you have to say that he is deserving of some - there were a number of players who did not put in anything like the effort required on Saturday and it doesn't matter what tactics or formations are used, if the players can't be bothered then you're always going to struggle and the players deserve to be criticised for that. We improved once the 3 subs came on and that was mostly because they put a shift in.

 

You then have to ask the question which people were responcable for bringing those players to the club, the transfer commitee of Edin, Greg & Micheal Collins I'm given to understand its a group decision were told, just as it was when McCall was there.

 

Yep. I'm happy that Edin has influence and it's a negative.

Just not that keen to jump on ever single thing that happens at our club still going back to him. I'm happy to assume that O'Connor still has him own opinions without needing to tie that back to Rahic without any actual evidence or indications that is the case. It a pointless and distracts from any actual issues.

 

Absolutely, I'm not remotely absolving Collins from blame but there's no way that anyone could look at that performance and say that we had 11 players fighting for the cause. Whatever else is going on at the club, a large number of players just didn't put the minimum amount of effort in to try to effect the game and they deserve their share of the criticism as well as Collins, Rahic et al.

This is an excellent post. I would add this; I am never in favour of players or managers breaking ranks to criticise the team, it does nothing for team harmony, I know it doesn’t appear we have much anyway, but it breeds distrust when what is required is cool heads and strong leadership.

As @JonButterfield has stated there was confusion and lack of understanding of their respective roles. Having three coaches may also be adding to their problems, who is actually in charge and putting together a game plan?

Like others have said, I don’t like these weekly interviews from players stating they will put things right. I will keep saying this, you have to analyse what is wrong first before you can put it right. Continually trying to put something right will get you precisely nowhere, and worse may well follow. Please can someone identify what is going wrong with our team again!

 

The trouble is we’re only 5 games into a new season and there’s a lack of effort from new players. Something is fundamentally wrong with the set up. The players aren’t buying into whatever the coaches are trying to tell them, so they are either taking the easy way out by following his instructions to the letter, knowing Collins will get the blame or half the side are doing what they like and it looks like total confusion.

If we’re this bad 5 games in, we’ll be cut adrift come Christmas.

 

Whoever was behind this interview is now irrelevant.

The message is clear from the club.

Its disappointing we need this rallying call just 5 games into the season but at least it has been made.

We may hear of some training ground busts ups to back up this interview to show the players really care. Any news on this @Bronco ?

Like most other city fans I am quite bemused at how poorly we played saturday, we looked like a sunday league pub team that had just met at 1PM.

MC: Right can anyone play in goal? Good
Can anyone play defence? OK You go RB you go LB and you two big buggers can be CH's.
You look quick so you can be a winger etc etc

That MacKail- Smith is old and can't jump so the little un can mark him at corners.

 

I'm not sure it need MacKail-Smiths assist it looked to be going directly in from where I was sat, Payne certainly couldn't have headed it out as you say one of our smallest players on the far post, straight out of the coaching manual .

Doyley. Instead of posing a goal threat can you come deep and take the ball of the midfielders in our half as they won't be doing anything with it themselves.

 

What time do they usually start training Bronco? Off work at the moment so may pop down myself to enhance 'my coaching' observations as well....

 

I'm usually there about 10:30, they may be around the back though under the railway bridge, long walk around the perimeter.
