The trouble is, that I guess Hopkin and Grayson were individuals, who were tried managers and given their manner/presentation, were probably fairly stern task masters. However they achieved what they did at Valley Parade and in their subsequent appointments at Morton and Blackpool.

He has managed 2 clubs. Southend and Macclesfield. He has averaged less than one point per game between them and his average tenure is 8 months. I've spoken to the owners of those clubs.

Opinions are fine, but the data and my additional insight point to him being a rank poor manager.

    I remember someone suggested Wild.

They've had a bit of a rough start to the season, but just rattled off three wins in a row against struggling opposition.

If it's a choice of a Woodgate/Campbell type, or a Pete Wild type, I'd happily back Wild.

If it's a choice of Adkins or Alexander (or my preferred choice Lowe), then I probably choose them over Wild.

Wouldn't be disappointed though, as it ticks a couple of boxes, and there's a story to tell about him and Sparks being the new breed or something.

What would you expect a manager of Macclesfield Town in league two average point per game?

He did a very good job at Macclesfield. Did your data tell you that he and his players weren't getting paid? Did your data tell you how many points adrift they were when he took over?

Southend didn't work out. Whoever we get will have failed somewhere.

Parky had failed at Hull and was out of work for a long time before we took the punt on him.

I don’t think Sol Campbell would do a great job managerially either, and he wouldn’t be my pick when what we clearly need is someone who wants to be Bradford City manager, has a plan and knows what he wants to do - rather than some high profile name who just wants to be a manager.

But points per game is a garbage metric of success on any sample size, let alone two half seasons.

Nail on head, not sure Sol would be my choice but to rule a candidate out because he kept a cash strapped Macclesfield Town up in League Two is daft to say the least.

Adkins just dropped from 12-1 to 8-1, also some talk on twitter he's put his name in the hat and talks in 48 hours. Would fit with the new recruitment advisor as put on here earlier. Can't see it being Campbell after Sparks interview saying he wants someone who really wants to be here, surely he has the intelligence to see what damage Campbell has done at past clubs.

    Who would I like?

    a) Big Sam
And in a similarly stupid vein
    b) Hannes Wolf - ( now all it needs is a campaign to keep the Wolf from the Door).

    Expecting Alexander.

What has Campbell done at past clubs?

Adkins led Sheffield United to mid table league one. Lowest league position since the 80's.

Can’t say any of the likely candidates inspire me, although I agree McCall had to go. Paul Cook would be the dream but he’s well out of our league, had it not been for off field issues he’d most likely be building Wigan to a promotion push to the Premier League this season.

Parkinson, I’d take him back but he won’t come, and I doubt lightening would strike twice. He might keep us up and improve us, but I think long term he’d divide the fan base with his style of play and doubt he would have the same success as last time to keep the fans happy.

Campbell and Woodgate are a no for me, both only have their name and have done little to warrant been given the faith to save us from this shit storm.

Then there’s the also ran candidates who play musical chairs at clubs, Atkins, Alexander and Hurst. Might do enough to keep us up and maybe build on it next season to what exactly I don’t know. But I think one of them is probably the best of a bad bunch, they can’t do any worse than McCall when it comes to transfers anyway.

Wound up Macclesfield and left Southend in the position they are now, never had a win rate over 30% as manager.

Adkins took Scunthorpe up twice to the championship, Southampton from League 1 to prem whilst destroying teams by 3/4 goals a game. Plus he kept Hull up under difficult circumstances. Sheff U was pretty much his only failure, to which they were in a regime like us where they kept changing managers. Still had a 40% win rate at Sheff U even though he finished 11th in league 1 and we're in league 2.

Wound up Macclesfield?? He didn't get paid. Would you work for free?

Southend this season is his fault even though he left last season?

    That doesn't make sense.

I'll be happy enough with Adkins.

    Just don't understand the anti-Sol.
    Macclesfield 2018/19
Before him 10 points from 19 games.
Him 34 points from 27 games.

That stands up when you and your players aren't getting paid.

Southend had 5 points from 15 games when Sol got the job.

The rot had set in long before.

I’ve got no truck with his record, it’s pretty much alright.

But I’d go for someone who’s got the vision to build a squad and a backroom team that can completely overhaul the approach at the club. It’s not necessarily representative, but Campbell’s approach of chucking the towel in when it gets tough is something of a red flag. I’d this goes catastrophically then it’ll quite possibly relegate us.

It’s always tough to know what kind of pitch these prospective managers go for in interviews, but I’d like a manager with a level headed and pragmatic approach to building a successful project. Adkins springs to mind in that sense, if he’d be willing to accept it.

Adkins is 14/1 on Paddy Power. And 12/1 on William Hill.

Alexander favourite for Barrow job, with Hurst 2nd favourite there. Same names banded about by bookies, pure guesswork at this stage.

I have a feeling our new manager will be somebody not mentioned yet
