Aaron McLean, Andy Gray (2nd spell) and Sean Scannell. All players with plenty of experience, who had spend a decent amount of time at their respective clubs and were past it by the time we had signed them. Players deteriorate and it looks like Taylor comes under that Bracket.

Thankfully there's not a lot of expectation on him. He only needs to be better than Devine/Anderson to earn his wage.

 

So, it would appear Bowyer wanted to sign him in the summer, but Rupp wouldnt release the necessary funds. Just shows how tight finances were after we secured Donaldson and Vaughan, and before the McBurnie transfer went through

 

basically what you are saying is a bad signing taints all others? You don't know how much he is on.I'm sure Anderson was only ever meant as cover

I think it is reasonable to suggest Bowyer knows Taylor better than he knew Anderson. It makes no sense to condemn a player before he’s played for our club especially as we can lay him off in January if he’s no good. I agree Anderson is not a good re-signing but I suspect he’s not on big wages and Bowyer took a punt on him.

I haven't condemned anyone. The only thing I suggested is that he was probably a cheap signing brought in to boost numbers.

 

Unemployed people don’t always take any job willy nilly. Fair play to him for holding out.

 

I think given that Cooke was bought by Peterborough and is in his last year (the transfer list year), he's probably here as an 'in the shop window' option. Given that McAnthony basically goaded a City fan on Twitter saying the issue is at 'our end', it sounds like they have plans to maximise the amount of money he makes. That could be by selling him in January for 'Peterborough' money (ie, inflated price), or offering him an extension and taking the compo if he decides to walk.

Either way, for us, we either pay whatever they're asking for a player on a six month contract, and have no opportunity to really negotiate, or we risk losing him during a competitive Summer.

Frankly, it's a difficult one - I'd really rather we didn't pay over the odds just so that Rupp is seen to make a statement of intent, but if Cooke is our driving force until January, he could be a good long-term investment... in which case, Taylor probably leaves.

 

I think those comments about cooke are in regards to wage percentages rather than transfer fees.

 

He said we had put a few loan offers in but the wages we offered weren't good enough. They were for Cooke and George Cooper who went to Plymouth. I think posh wanted rid of cooke permanently, which is why he was available for free, but he only wanted to come here, so when we could only afford part of his wages they just sanctioned it to free up some more money rather than reject it and it fall through I think.

 

I'm struggling with this talk of him being on wages so ludicrously high that we couldn't afford to sign him permanently. He's on the books at Peterborough, not Man City! Just what sort of ball park figure are we looking at?

 

He is not out of contract though, so dont get your point

 

The notion we can just sign somone of any quality now and for them to improve our squad is ridiculous. We have injuries and we will have to cope. Just like every other club.

 

The governing bodies of our leagues not knowing elbow from arse?

I’m not sure it’s a case of they don’t know, I suspect it actually may be a case of them putting the onus on City to interpret the rules correctly, rather than being prepared to provide categorical ‘pre-event’ advice. Suspect as a rule they won’t provide advice to clubs in that way.

 

That's plain daft if the FA and EFL won't assist a member club in matters like this with advice on how to proceed.
What are they there for of not to intervene in cases like this to provide clarity.

It's hardly a complex case is it?
IIRC no signed paperwork or contract or any other kind of written evidence exists other than maybe a team sheet.

Its just plain bonkers.

 

Taylor is still training with the squad. Not sure if that's to keep his fitness up so we can sign him in January? Down there now and hes definitely training so still hope it can be completed by the look of things.

 

You must be the only one who thinks that.

Its a bonkers situation made worse by the incompetence of the FA and EFL.

The lad has bills to pay and a family to support and the powers that be are sitting on the fence.

Its scandalous that this is happening.
