The sad thing is though, we're talking about a professional footballer who isn't being allowed to do his profession because of this error. There was no intent from Taylor to "cheat the system". The lad just wants to play football. I should imagine his family and his mortgage provider want him to play football too. This type of admin error, which in the great scheme of things doesn't really affect much in footballing terms, should be looked at what it is - an admin error, and sense should prevail. Does playing one game for Barrow in an entirely different league, with no direct outcome on either sides results, really mean that a player has to put his life on hold for something that he didn't intend? Stuff like this should be put in front of a jury of sorts.

 

It would be good to get Cooke and Connolly on permanent deals, but, just to be pessimistic (up to 35cm of snow forecast for here by tomorrow morning leads one to pessimism!): in a worst case scenario the loan players get recalled, or don't return as expected from injuries -- that could eliminate Cooke, Connolly, Devitt, and Palmer; Reeves might take longer than expected to return to form, or break down again, and Akpan, Anderson, and Devine might remain their inconsistent, frustrating, not quite front-rank-players selves. And all of a sudden, the currently overcrowded midfield desperately needs reinforcing, again.

A short-term deal that we can extend IN january, once we know which way things are going, seems alright to me.

Looks like Bowyer has cottoned onto Devine and Anderson both being shite.

 

I agree , what’s not to like , 3rd in the league , suffering a few injuries so we sign a player on a short term contract that the manager knows well. I wish more people would have more faith in our manager who is doing a fine job.

 

The guy has played 400 games in his career. You don’t play 400 games of professional football if you’re crap. I’ll trust Bowyer’s judgement on this one given that many on here had written off the likes of Connolly, Pritchard et al before they’d seen them kick a ball.

 

What a waste of money this is. Cooke is back from suspension, Akpan is doing fairly well, Pritchard is now a central player and in good form and Palmer is back in training. That's already 4 players ahead of him with possibly Reeves in at 5th choice too.

Any money left in the pot should've been going to making Cooke/Connolly deals permanent and bringing doyle back.

 

Bowyer doing a mate a favour I see. Woeful player but at least its only until Palmer and Devitt are back fit.

 

FFS we are 3rd and unbeaten in is it 5 games.? And we are moaning about a player we have never seen play consistently for any team. Give the manager and the player a bit of respect keyboard warriors we will never had ,played, or managed, at their level and from so far Bowyers done pretty well. The guy has not even kicked a ball !!!

 

Also Akpans form is very much recent. Before then we would have been categorising similar to the others we deem not good enough alternatives.

Based on the weekends starting XI, an injury to either Cooke or Akpan seriously weakens our CM. So in that sense, I’m happy with this signing for all parties.

 

Let's face facts here, Cooke gets injured and we are fooked.

 

If we are where we are now or above it will be a measure of Stefans commitment IMO if Cooke has been a major player in our rise up the league not to back Bowyer and keep Cooke either on loan or make Peterbourough an offer wouldnt convince fans he wants sucsess.
The kid is only 22 maybe one as with Paudie we can start rebuilding our team around.

 

Just how on earth can neither the FA or EFL know if any rules would be broken if he played for us. Thats just ridiculous

 

Don't understand the negativity around this signing. Bowyer obviously knows what he's about so I trust his judgement. Only 2 months so not overly committed if it doesn't pan out.

Seems a sensible bit of business to me whilst Palmer is still out. People bringing Reeves into the discussion are getting ahead of themselves considering how long he's been out of action. Devine and Anderson are poor so I think this deal suits us well.

You can't rubbish a signing before seeing the guy kick a ball! Remember that happening last season with Lewis O'brien and looking a bit silly afterwards!

 

But Devine and Anderson are not good enough, so really we only have Cooke, Akpan and Pritchard. All of which are starting 11. Anyone that prevents Devine and Anderson having game time gets a thumbs up from me.

 

What makes him a woeful player in your opinion, genuine question I've never heard of the lad ?.

Those saying Taylor is poor are gratuitously casting aspersions on a manager who so far has made many good signings. Bowyer knows the player well. That’s good enough for me.

 

Just a cheap option to boost the numbers until a couple return from injury.

 

There aren't many posters capable of accusing someone of 'whinging', a word used purely to incite an emotional reaction, then DENY they were inciting an emotional reaction, then ACCUSE the resulting post of trying to incite an emotional reaction.

Good point on Akpan, great that he's had a couple of decent games but never harm in competition, something which doesn't exist with Anderson and Devine!

Remember people being a little bit meh about Jim O'brien last year and he was a good pro we probably shouldn't have let go. Just because someone is without a club doesn't mean they're no good.
