The 'vision' is having a very good Manager and Adams is definitely that. Even Plymouth fans hold him with affection - even though he started riling against them, towards the end of his tenure.

Morecambe isn't that well run. For seasons they've been struggling to stay in the league. It's the manager who's made the difference.

I'll remember well when Adams first came to VP with his Plymouth team who were bottom of the table and basically totally outsmarted McCall, who was too busy in pre-build making sly digs at Adam's character (I believe they locked horns in Scotland)

You may remember, they parked the bus and won. As the game went on we simply didn't have a clue and it was the first signs that our L1 promotion dream was not going to happen

We'd barely get as close (6 points) to the top 2 again. It was only their second win of the season. Remarkably it would be them who nearly got into the play-offs

So clearly Adams is a manager who like Parky can manage a team out of a bad run and turn it into some kind of consistent progression - something not a single manager has managed to do since `Parky left.

I don’t get it! I can’t get my head around the obsession with owning VP.
Now don’t get me wrong if a billionaire philanthropist wanted to buy the ground and gift it to the fans then great, however back in the real world.......
The land that VP sits on isn’t growing in value, so as the ground ages and taking into account inflation it’s real value falls YOY.
So if as a Ltd company the club bought the ground they would borrow the money at commercial rates. The Mortgage (on an asset losing value YOY) would be comparable to the rent. Even if a city supporting businessman bought it he’d still want his money plus interest! Our Uber fan Mr Lawn saved the club by investing at commercial rates. The Huddersfield Demi-god Mr Hoyle is now getting his money plus interest out of Town. If the value of VP had any chance of increasing then you could make a business case but it won’t so why bother?
When businesses are bought and sold the valuation of the business would normally be based on a forecasted profit number Multiplied typically by 3,4 or 5 depending on other factors such as aged debt, assets V liabilities and how badly someone want to buy it.
Also renting gives some tax benefits to the club as the rent can be written off against profits.
All in all owning the ground is more of a vanity act, it doesn’t affect the clubs sale price or how attractive or otherwise it would be to sell, it would only have a bearing if we owned it outright with zero debt attached to it. To make the ground pay I’d stop focusing on who owns the place and look at how we can rinse every last bit of revenue from it, boxing matches, Asian weddings, music concerts etc.....match day, fan zones getting maximum share of the fans wallet, ensuring the suites are sold out every match.
Sorry to disagree but owning VP in my opinion gives zero value as long as we have a long rental agreement in place at fixed rates, allowing sensible financial budgets to be drawn up.

@trevor@trevor i agree, if the club could snap its fingers and own the ground outright without incurring debt it would be a massive tick in the box. Better still if the ground could be somehow bequeathed to a fans co-operative then absolute best result. But....If Gibb were still our chairman, would anyone care that the ground was owned by his pension fund? Because if Stephan bought it outright, registered it to a stand alone business then charged the club rent, would their be any difference? I haven’t checked but would be very surprised if lots of football clubs didn’t have a holding company where assets such as training facilities and grounds are hived off then rented back, making shareholders a tidy profit whilst fans sleep easy at night under the false perception of ground ownership.

    Agree
Very poor ethics from the T&A however am I right in thinking the club must have released this information for print very poor from the club too if that's the case
Will be cheering the Shrimpers this afternoon and hoping they can retain L1 status next season (if promoted)
Fans on here seem to forget or weren't around during the McFarland/Derby saga a lot of bad feeling around then and just before a big match for us too
48 hrs later would have been the right time to publish this article

How do you know they've lied ?

Plus I'm 99% sure that the season tickets sold have gone to Bradford city fans not Derek Adam fans.
I've bought one and I would of bought one regardless who the manager is .
I'd of still bought one if they said they don't know who the manager is yet.

You're winging over nowt, ypu know nothing like the rest of us, go outside and enjoy the sun you seem to be a very angry young man.

Go for a pint with @Fordy117@Fordy117 after his shift at the car wash, I'm sure you'd make a very happy couple

And if you've been watching City for a number of years but still feel like you've fallen victim to the "snake oil" trick when renewing then you probably should consider help with any important decisions going forward.

There is no EFL rule which requires compensation to have been agreed for that to have happened. However, it would be commercial lunacy on our part if that hadn't already been agreed and the new manager had had some involvement in the release/retention lists.

But there is an EFL rule which prevents a potential club talking to an existing contracted manager without the explicit agreement of his current club. It's interesting that despite all of the rumours here and in cash strapped Morecambe, their owner hasn't even issued the vaguest of 'hands off' statements or threatened even obliquely to involve the EFL. That's very telling imo.

I fully expect this to descend into a situation not unlike that Paladini saga soon.

We need a photo of Adams, in a pub, in Bradford, holding today's newspaper.

Sparks has very rightly made a point of indicating that the best way of maintaining consistency and continuity over a period of time - given the rate of manager turnover in the game - is by having the majority of your support staff being the choice of the club rather than the ,manager. So, your scouting, data analysis, recruitment, physical conditioning staff should be employed at the behest of the club, not the manager. The manager should have decision rights on his number 2, and probably 1-2 coaches for technical and tactical purposes on the training field, but thats it. It’s essential as a means of protecting the club whenever the manager leaves and if we step back from that approach, I’ll be hugely pissed off and it’ll undermine the sense of structure that we finally seem to be pushing.

If we get the structural side of things right, then changing the manager doesn’t have to be a root and branch reinvention of all things at the club. That said, at some point we need a level of patience to allow for a manager to properly shape the playing side. It’s why we need to back a manager with a proven record at this level rather than blindly trusting rookies like T&S. So in that sense, unless things look as bleak as they did under McCall, the new manager should be given a seasons grace, as a general principle. However, it’s really down to circumstances and context of how the season plays out. And if we get the recruitment side right, there’s no reason why the new manager shouldn’t be charged with getting this club into the top 3 and measured on that basis. If we form a decent playing squad and look to be getting the basics right, in the top half, then the manager keeps his job for the following season. But as I say, that shouldn’t be the level of expectation we openly set as a club.

Let's hope once Adams is in the building we will hear about a few new quality signings, getting the buzz, new CEO, new manager, got rid of a lot of deadwood and I'm fully vacced up ready to go, what could possibly go wrong .

There will be many Bantams out there this morning no doubt with an optimistic outlook towards the new season now our new manager is in place.
I'm no different he's had no ties with the club and appears to have an edge in his approach, seldom displayed by others who have been in the Valley Parade hot seat.
Huge believer in his own abilities with a winning mentality what more can we ask for.
Fine margins between success and failure of course but for now I'm more than happy to be swept along by the new brush.
Good Luck to Derek Adams and his team going forward not backwards.

He was wise to go out at the top with Morecambe. They'll struggle like f... in League One and he knows that. But also he wouldn't have taken up the poison chalice of VP unless he'd been promised a realistic challenging budget and agreements on his methods, vision and backroom staff. He's learnt the ropes at Ross County and Plymouth. Both of which were struggling financially when he took them up through three promotions. And now Morecambe. He's an ambitious manager who wants to achieve more and right now, we're all a good fit. He is an astute guy. Yes, let's all wait to see how it works next season but personally, I think this is the most important managerial appointment we've made since Parky.
