Before the Morecambe away game in October 2019 we were staying at the Holiday Inn just off the M6 at Lancaster. The City players appeared for their pre-match meal. My youngest daughter and little lad had their City tops on and having been spotted by Paudie and O’Donnell were quickly invited over to meet the rest of the team. Gary Bowyer was absolutely spot on with them, chatting away and making sure that they got their photos with the players. He probably won’t even remember, but that 5 mins he spent chatting with them is something my kids won’t forget and it’s stuff like that that costs nothing, but is priceless. So he’ll always have my respect.

 

Going back a few years ago, when Parky was here. We played a pre season friendly at Ossett, where a friend of mine is, or was involved in running the club. As a favour he arranged for my lad - who was only about 4 at the time - to be a 'mascot' for the game. It was a bit of a scratch side- a few 1st teamers, a few kids and a few trialists. Parky let him walk out with the team and kick the ball about just before kick off. He told me to pop over at the end of the game and he'd get the players to sign his shirt. The game finished and Parky was busy having a long chat with a trialist - who i think was Chris Routis. So I passed my lads shirt to one of the senior players who was a bit of a dick in the way he responded and said something about getting it signed in the dressing room. 30 mins later and the players have mainly left, including the player who took the shirt. Parky wanders over and I ask him if he'd mind checking on the shirt. He pops in the dressing and reappears a few seconds later. No ones signed the shirt. He asks if I'd leave the shirt with him along with my address. A few days later, the shirt is posted back, signed by all the first team and with a signed letter from Parky thanking my lad 'doing such a splendid job in leading the team out as mascot'.

A proper touch of real class.

Been running a course of Walking Football sessions for Cancer patients today so been very emotional and very uplifting. Just got back and more uplifting news finally confirmed re Derek Adams, all we ask Derek is you make us proud to be City fans again, show us a team that cares (and can challenge at the top end) and we will support you all the way

 

We've been far too soft, for far too long. I won't pretend to have seen much of Morecambe but I did watch their playoff games and I was struck by how well they defended their penalty box and how they did the ugly well, as a side. We spent last season protecting our box about as robustly as a 19 year old scouse lass in Magaluf.

Agree. That article really pi**ed me off actually. He’s not our manager yet, or at least not officially or publicly. On the day of their final just don’t publish this piece. Not that I expect many Morecombe fans or representatives to be reading a local Bradford piece at this time, it’s just disrespectful IMO.

As I’ve said before, I understand it’s all part of journalism. However the way the T&A have discussed this topic recently has been disappointment from my prospective.

 

Great interview with Adams in T&A this morning.

He clearly wants to create a Us v the rest of the world mentality and doesn't mind who he upsets along the way to success.

He comes across a bit like Parky with a meaner streak, indeed he praises what Parky did for us

Cannot wait for him to get started and hopefully we are all allowed back at Valley Parade to welcome him in August

 

Much as I love Bradford City, I would absolutely, NOT renew my season ticket if the horrible semi human that Evans is rocked up as our manager. Frankly I'd rather have Ronnie Kray as manager than him. He may have been successful, but then so was Vlad the Impaler and Attila the Hun.

The only certainty I'm getting from reading this thread is that many more of our fans than I thought probable, can't spell Morecambe.

 

Perhaps there is a lesson that we can all learn in how balanced the posters on the Morecambe forum are. They certainly put us to shame with our constant bickering and carping about all things BCFC. Very dignified.

Real shame he wouldn’t stay on and build on his success. He’s been brilliant for the club and achieved such a huge amount in such a short time. No one could begrudge him wanting to move on to bigger things. Hopefully his reason for going to Bradford is the potential in the club rather than the salary.

However, no one person is bigger than a football club. The club statement is a positive one and if we can find one outstanding manager we can find another. The problem is player recruitment as we’ve only got two contracted players and one optioned. Again though Derek showed what’s possible by recruiting a squad quickly at the start of the season. There’s a lot of goodwill out there and we’ll get decent loan players and there will be plenty of hungry players looking to develop themselves.

Can’t do anything else other than be positive.

 

I just can't get my head around Morecambe allowing Adams to have a say in our retained list/recruitment whilst preparing for the biggest few games in their history. Just doesn't make sense.

 

He's odious man, a proven cheat (Boston), and a misogynist and he only succeeds when people throw money at him, unlike Adams & Parky who have built teams out of nothing. Good manager or not, I want to at least warm to my manager and have some respect for him and I couldn't/ do that with him even if he won us the Champions League.

I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this, but I'd rather forgo success than have him anywhere near my club.

 

To do so would be totally unfair on Morecambe. We just have to be patient as hard as that is

 

I expect automatic promotion from any manager that comes in for next season. We have to aim high.

Rupp has to back Adams or any manager. They have to bring their own team in and backed with funds.

 

I can understand the Morecambe supporter being unhappy but I think Bradford City and Derek Adams have gone about this business in a fair and honourable way. He didn't walk out before The Shrimps had made the play-offs, as many managers would have done, in order to evaluate his new club's squad. Bradford City kept their cards close to their chest so as not to affect the end of Morecambe's season. Finally Adams delivered a promotion few Morecambe supporters could have dreamed of, even though he knew he'd be leaving within days he gave everything to take the side he was leaving over the line.
