The problem was Clarke said quite a few things and brought gays , women, ‘colour’ into the conversation, which was a mistake in his role.

I think the comment above around about the type of person running football clubs is fair . Why are you saying ‘nothing worse than the white man’. You are missing the point, business needs diversity ,different ideas, values in order to be successful. Going down the same recruitment path with a person recruiting their replacement doesn’t encourage that diversity (risks just bringing more of the same values ideas ) and I think the view from Brentford and how they do things is an interesting one.

But the article you've attached references colour and gender too. I'm not taking a position of defending Clarke, I'm saying that its a slippery slope when you start to define success on the basis of colour and gender.

I agree, diversity of thinking is important in any organization. Colour is just one variable in diversity - in fact, I don't even see it as a factor. Do all people of colour think in the same way? Of course not, why would they? So why should all white people or all men think the same way? Very pertinent case in point; Biden v Trump. Similar skin colour and age, but you couldn't really find 2 more opposing ways of thinking.

I simply don't care what gender or colour you are. You can either do the job or you can't. And making assumptions on the basis of skin colour, or gender, is prejudice - plain and simple. But it seems like its not prejudice when assumptions are made toward white men.

Specifically on our new CEO - what matters to me is that whoever comes in, has a clear and achievable, ambitious vision for the club. Contacts and access to funding opportunities to land that vision, good communication and networking skills, and preferably some experience of having done something similar to what's needed here, elsewhere in the game. I don't care about anything else. But we have no real vision in anything we do, so I doubt our CEO search will extend beyond getting on the phone to someone who's worked here before.

I’m not defining success on colour, or gender far from it, I think it’s just a great example at Brentford of moving away from the stereotypes in football and doing things a bit different in terms of the structure and dynamics, that’s got to be a good thing and seems to be working for them.

With reference to our CEO, I hope the candidate is chosen specifically by the owner and how he wants to move this club forward. I couldn't care less for their gender, atheist or religious, gay or straight, black or white. As long as the new appointment is chosen as part of an ambitious long term project rather than the cheapest and easiest option available then I'll be all for it.

I think the only thing Rupp will sign off of on is the wage. Rhodes seems to have picked the man, I’d imagine without much input

I hope you're right but I have serious doubts of that happening.

Rupp apears to have little interest in football and sees his investment in our club as just that .. an investment. And it's one which for a number of reasons has failed to deliver for him so far. I can see him sitting and waiting until somebody arrives to buy the club from him. Meanwhile once the Covid 19 crisis has passed and if he can get the paying fans back into VP, he'll be making a small return on his investment sufficient to wash its face from the introduction of the salary cap. If he can get the ST take-up anywhere close to what was expected pre-Covid, it will be a low risk option for him to let that continue and appoint another cautious CEO and let the club tick over.

My own hopes still rest on Rupp coming to his senses and selling the club to a new owner with a completely different mindset who has the vision and can provide the investment to take the club forward. I'm not betting the house on this happening in the near future!

I am sure Rupp would sell the club immediately if someone approached him with the figure that Rupp is (allegedly) wanting. Unfortunately at the moment there does not appear to be anybody out there who is prepared (or foolish enough) to pay that amount.

Has the job ever actually been advertised or is it up to JR to identify someone?

A job advert invites applicants to sell themselves. What could they bring to us? It's not unusual for applicants to have to present a vision for how they would move an organisation forward.

Have we done that or is JR going through his LinkedIn contacts for someone who KnOwS tHE cLuB.
