This ideal sandbox... could you just explain what it contains, other than sand. All I can pick out is that it's full of fans who support the team to the hilt no matter what they witness on the pitch

 

Point to me where a club has given their fans a detailed business plan. I can't imagine this ever happens. So you're really clutching at hundreds of straws.

 

I think you are being harsh on the fans, we have had 5 years of stagnation. It is hard to take and the fans have come out in their thousands. You give the impression that you don’t like our fans? What shall we do sack the current fans don’t allow them anywhere near VP and get some patient fans from elsewhere?

Our long suffering fans have tipped up money in their millions and are treated like mushroom under the guise of business sensitivity. Not even a plan we could all buy into.

 

I have no idea, but here’s the thing we are treated like customers and served up whatever comes our way and if we don’t like it we can go elsewhere. Is that anyway to run a business? I am not clutching I am indicating where the club could treat us with respect.

 

I'm really not sure what you want. Unless the club was fan owned you're never likely to get more info than the news of appointed members of staff and a very vague preview of a plan.

I imagine football clubs keep it in house to stop other clubs copying or knowing what the plan is. A bit like training.

We are customers at the end of the day albeit loyal ones. As above if we were fan owned, that's different.

Business plans are seldom , if at all, made public. I had to produce one annually for high level consumption only . They quite often contain commercially sensitive information. If they are ever made public then information contained is always generic , lacking in little detail, and therefore worthless.

 

We ARE customers , like it or not. No different to any other business which sells a “product” . Of course to you, me and thousands of others it’s much, much, much more than that , but boiled down that’s exactly what we are in a commercial sense.

I can't explain it any simpler. If you can't understand what I'm saying there's no point wasting time.

One final time: Hughes had to go due to the toxic atmosphere and because he lost support of the fans and the players weren't performing.

Without the fans, in an ideal world, I'd have preferred him to stay.

That isn't 'changing my mind', it's just you not really following what I'm saying, seeing two different outcomes based on two different scenarios and joining the dots as you see fit.

 

It's not the Sims though is it Jon? There are fans and they react to what they see. It would be interesting to see what would happen if Hughes had stayed but would you be willing to risk it....and how do you stop football fans getting upset when things aren't good and ecstatic when things are good. The more passionate a fan base is, the more "fickle" it can appear. Give me the passion any day as a football experience.

Well I know it's not a sim, that's why I supported sacking Hughes. We had little choice.

I'm not happy about it. It felt like another example of self sabotage, just like under Bowyer. Who we also needed to sack once the fans turned - but it shouldn't have got to that stage in an ideal world.

Now I'm just expecting the same thing over and over.

McDonald wins 10 points from a possible 12, but we lose 1 game and I guarantee our fans think he'll never make a manager.

It's absolutely nuts.
