and next on the Jeremy Kyle programme is Ricc from Bradford who is looking for closure on a long term love affair.

Love it Ricc. Keep fighting the good fight. Still a crackpot though and I'm howling at my desk currently at that paragraph :joy: A job well done though.

The word closure is what got me. Like it's been an ongoing trial for a murdered relative.

Yep. Think that's nailed it. Covered off both viewpoints.

"But if McCall’s return makes a few long-suffering fans feel better, or make them look forward to attending games again after the joyless grind of recent times, or at the very least just feel some sort of connection to the club again, then it will be worth it."

    Or

"In objective terms, McCall is not an especially appealing manager: he was sacked from Scunthorpe last season having set them on course for relegation, and has never won promotion in his career. There were not, you suspect, dozens of teams clamouring for McCall’s signature and expertise"

Which way will it go this time? Who knows but it will hopefully be fun to watch at least.

He didn't do a very good job at Scunthorpe so you can see why outsiders would find this a strange appointment. A few Hull fans I know were questioning his appointment to me at work yesterday and asking why we've brought him back.

It is hard to explain succinctly to them a) why we love Stuart so much and why he is Mr Bradford City and 2) why he did a really good job under difficult circumstances when Rahic was here.

But he's our Stuart and it is brilliant he is back.

Excellent analysis from Rhodes. I hadn’t realised that other clubs were spending much more than we were. I don’t want to be critical of Rhodes as he clearly running the club on a budget that is sustainable which very few other clubs are doing. He certainly knows how to cut a current in half!

Yeah, he certainly had tunnel vision about this appointment. I wonder how hard it was to persuade Rupp though?

Rhodes knows what he is getting from McCall, so fair fair play to him. He has probably seen how quickly things turned sour under other managers that they have had since McCall was sacked, and thought, better the devil you know this time.

Although Nathan Jones would have been my first choice, I am still very happy that McCall is back. 18 month contract is probably just about right for now too. McCall will need to get us promoted by 2021 you would think, for that contract to be extended. I am confident he will achieve it in this spell back

When you look at what other clubs are spending, we need a long term plan for how we intend to be sustainable. Unless Rupp or another owner is prepared to fund regular over spending, the only way I see of us doing it is player sales. And to do that well, we need to invest in scouting, coaching and recruitment.

Reading between the lines, I don't think Rhodes will have had to do too much persuading to get Rupp on board with Stuart's appointment. I don't think Rhodes would be publicly stating how unfairly he was treated last time by Edin if Rupp didn't agree with him.

We accept Rupp is not footballing man, I believe Rupp would be fully behind Julian and would have been quite happy to go along with Julian's choice of manager.
We all wanted a new man who could give the club a lift and get us back into the promotion mix and who better than Stuart to do that, certainly gives most fans a boost, many saying they are looking forward to Saturday.
We see posters saying they will be returning after boycotting games and I'd suggest the vast majority of City fans welcome this appointment.

I agree, no argument from me on that front. Rhodes should come out and speak more, it is very simple really communicate! I do think we are hampered atm in not having an owner who is committed long term to the club. As far as I understand, Rupp has said he wants to put us back in league 1, but above and beyond that, we have no idea. We only have a limited short term plan. The type of investment in the structure of the club has been put on hold. Plus the stadium which is shabby at best, the pitch requires more investment. However, there is nothing we can do about any of this, but I do feel it is precarious in comparison to other clubs who are planning well in advance.

There are blueprints out there for how different clubs achieve success. We have a new manager here now with a different approach but what long term approach could Bradford take? We clearly don't have one, to be fair i can't remember us having one, basically Parkinson and his successful period has kept this club afloat. Our get of jail free card this time has come courtesy of Swanseas long term vision developing young players in the first team in the form of Oli McBurnie. One thing is certain, for any long term plan to work in any form it needs investment.

Gotta feel for my young un. i forced him to endure such atrocities as Carlisle, Macclesfield, Mansfield, literally had to bribe him to go to Oldham. And now he's missing the return of the ginger god because of other commitments. Lifes a bitch sometimes.
