Omar Khan in City (near Ice rink) very good. Karachi just round the corner is hard-core but great food (no cutlery or booze) cheap. Agrah in shipley good but expensive. Shimlah better value. Have a good trip

Yeah I did think this would be a blow, obviously, but I was pleased as it'll make for an even better spectacle. I was already looking forward to it as I know our fans are going to be excellent, but this is good news. There was a poll on here asking who was going and who was staying away. I think that question is redundant now.

My recollection is that Dave Baldwin had a business background and a commercial pilots licence before he became the CEO at Bradford City, that he wasn’t a coach and hadn’t worked in football previously. Happy to be corrected, if you or anyone else has a copy of his CV.

I have had a quick look at the top three clubs in the division.

Forest Green Rovers have Richard Hughes in the role of Football Director. Here is a link to his CV https://uk.linkedin.com/in/rich-hughes-797b8652

Tranmere have a very hands on owner in Mark Palios. He has a degree in Psychology from Manchester University, is a qualified accountant and a former footballer. So no DOF at Tranmere but an owner who is totally committed to the club. When he took over Tranmere in 2014, they were in the Football League. They were relegated in 2015 and it took them 3 seasons to return (just think of the melt down that would have occurred if that happened at City).

There is no suggestion that Northampton Town have a DOF https://www.ntfc.co.uk/club/contacts/

    So three very different approaches.

You could argue that Sparks has had a very tough baptism of fire in his role. My expectation is that he is learning continuously and is an adaptable individual, who is pragmatic rather than dogmatic, with fixed views.

The points you make about the club putting in place some framework on who is signed as players is valid. Is there some criteria? Perhaps write to Ryan about it, or raise the issue directly at a Fans Forum?

Appointing a DOF is no guarantee of success.

Forest Green Rovers are very dependent on Dale Vince ‘enabling’ them with his financial muscle. They are in reality a ‘large village’ club, with a very small support, with a very strong ethos, dictated by Vince, some could say cloying, which I would guess would alienate the vast majority of City fans if a similar individual were to take over at VP.

This has to be the friendliest forum I've posted on! Most boards they tell you to f-off!

Thanks, best of luck to you too after Saturday.

Here's what I expect from our fans. Watch from about 14 mins...

We only need a DoF because we don't have a board and Ryan has shown he's struggling on the footballing and stability aspects.

He's had a stupidly tough baptism of fire, nobody with any sense (ie, not Rupp) would have made him endure the schedule he's had to endure - but if he was a legitimately talented DoF (rather than commercial director, let alone BOTH), then the club wouldn't have struggled so horrendously with the budget we've got.

We shouldn't even be struggling given the financials at the club. But we are, because we're not competent.

I backed you to get in the play offs a few months back at 11/4, so I've been keeping an eye on your results.
    You're almost my second team!!

In todays game its all about adaptability and transitioning. You won’t see a team stick with the same formation throughout the game, its all about switching shape through defensive an attacking situations.

Il give Liverpool as an example. In defence, you will commonly see a 4-3-3. With the wingers dropping deep to assist the full backs an perhaps Firmino dropping deeper into midfield to fill any voids. almost a 4-5-1 or a 5-3-2 depending on the strength of the opposition an how far back Fabinho choses to play

In attack however, You see the transition. The full backs go up, The CDM, notably Fabino, will either drop slightly deeper an act almost as part of a back 3, whilst the wingers invert themselves closer towards the goal. You see there, a 4-3-3 has gone into more of a 3-4-1-2

Now thats just an example for arguments sake. One thing i've noticed about this team under adams was they were too rigid. Somewhat compact in defensive situations, we’d go into a 4-5-1, or from when Canavan was here an Songo was in the middle, a 5-4-1. When we broke on the attack however, we would often be a shambles. A bunch of headless chickens so to speak. In other words, we couldn’t counter or looked pretty shit whilst doing it.

This kind of implementation will take time, I can see us being more organised under Hughes than before, But I don’t see wholesale changes being made till at least next season

bare in mind, It took Pep 2 years to get City playing his way, Whilst with Klopp it took about 3 to get liverpool playing the way he wanted to

I'm pretty sure we'll see the same level of effort that we saw against Harrogate in the first half, maybe even more. Don't think we'll lack for effort. Just depends how many errors we make.

Those that have showed up well recently include Hendrie, Foulds, Sutton and Cook and Robinson seemed to do OK together against Harrogate so are worth another chance together.

What we might see this time is people playing for a contract because they want to stay and play for Hughes next season. That might make some difference.

We are just about as far from Liverpool and Man City as we are from the moon. We need to compare ourselves with Forest Green, Swindon, Tranmere, Accrington et al to get an accurate picture of how we need to proceed. We need grit, determination, organisation and players who stay fit to fight in this league.

Effort doesn't really worry me, although we seem to fade badly in second halfs. The opposition seem much fitter than we are, regularly. Didnt Sparks touch on that last summer and promise we'd sort it? Doesn't look like we have to me.

There was a comment Ryan made in the interview yesterday about speaking to the staff and scouts and he was surprised by some of what he heard or something (can't remember exact wording). Maybe Adams wasn't as on the ball and invested as he made out?

I noted that too. Made me wonder whether it was related to the brief on 'type of player' Adams instructed them to be scouting for....

Not seen all of the earlier curry chat but for FWIW My Lahore and International would be my top two choices.

they are sort of near the ice rink and where the nightclubs were. These days there’s a Wetherspoons and a few other bars. You are also not far from centenary square which is where a Lloyds bar/wetherspoons is if you want a cheap pint before getting on train - which is walking distance from the Interchange. They are, however, a long walk from the ground. 20-30 mins or so to get to that part of town? But you can of course stop off for a pint on way (if doing so, North Parade has some decent bars, and City Vaults in town attracts a football crowd).

the closest curry houses to the ground are probably Sheesh Mahal or the Sweet Centre. Sheesh Mahal is a bit rough and ready. Sweet Centre bit nicer, but the nicer places are further away in town.

We love My Lahore - curries are great and have some substance, not watery. Its not the most extensive menu, so best to check before you go. Not sure if they take bookings. It gets busy, so may have to wait a little for a seat.

someone else mentioned Omar Khan’s - that’s a solid option and near to My Lahore and International. There was an Aagraah near the Registry Office - end of Manningham Lane so near the ground - that was solid (not been for a while so dunno if that’s still there).

if you are from outside Bradford I wouldn’t touch Karachi. Not been for years but a work colleague went after visiting the theatre and said they still have the plastic seats. Its a dive and meat was all brown and horrible, not chicken breast. It has a reputation but its not somewhere id recommend given the alternatives.

i’m off to the international tonight. Its not cheap but they refurbed it during lockdown and had a change of owner. Bloody tasty curries in there though.

good luck (and for rest of the season, after tomorrow, of course :))

There were quite a few digs at Adams in comments from both Sparks and Hughes yesterday. Hughes' comments about managers making excuses and bigging themselves up seemed particularly pointed.

If you’re from Bradford then brown chicken meat is the best going, don’t want any of that posh breast meat!
Karachi still head and shoulder the best for me!
For that reason I always find it difficult recommending a curry house - everybody’s tastes are as varied as the colours of the rainbow!

Well there should be plenty blue and yellow there tomorrow. That said, there’s a sizable Ukrainian descended population in Bradford, would be nice to see some support as suggested above.
