Match Thread Mansfield Town (H) @ 15:00 26 Feb

Not sure many were making that sort of comment at the start of the season, in fact the opposite many claiming Cook & Angol looked a dangerous pairing, unfortunately once the injuries started to kick in we realised that we were weak up front.

 

Amid all the hype of a new manager we mustn't lose sight of the absolute shambles this season has been, and the people responsible. We can now only hope we can cobble a few points together to stay up.

Hes got a massive job on his hands. This squad is truly awful. Lacking in just about everything.

He quickly needs to realise that talk of 'getting up the table' is a nonsense, and the immediate job at hand is staving off relegation.

 

Scunthorpe are pretty much a guarantee for relegation so we should be looking at Stevenage as a marker. Played the same amount of games and 7 points clear of them at the moment.

Funny how the club has again assembled a squad that it thought was fit for promotion, and here we are soon to be in a relegation battle. Two of our best players in Vernam and Crankshaw and we paid fees for them. Rest of the squad (apart from Cooke and Sutton) were free for a reason. DOF needed immediately...preferably one that has a clue what he's doing

 

Hughes will get rid of everyone except Sutton, Watt and O'Connor.

Yeah, he says he's the best manager this club could have and the fans are sh1t....

 

Wouldn't keep any of them three either myself. We need much better and I'm certain Hughes will be able to attract better than these and the rest of the dross at the club

Gilliead and perhaps Hendrie apart, the rest were woeful today.

Roll on summer and the end of this truly awful season. Let's just hope we are still in league 2!

 

I believe the the early substitutions bringing Cooke on for the lad Daly who offered little during his 60 minutes on the pitch, then a couple of old heads we looked a different side, unfortunately the damage had been done with a descent finish just before half time then the killer early goal second half, Mansfield aren't where they are because their mugs far from it but IMO there was little between the teams certainly the stats suggest that, the difference being a good finish (accompanied by equally poor defending) and Mansfield getting the break in the box for their second.
So for me (and this isn't using him as a scape goat) but Songo struggles as a CD we cant continue playing him there, Cooke, Lavery and Evans made a difference and if not for a great save from Bishop it would have been even closer, unfortunately once again we got nothing from the game and we need to be going forward.

 

I posted this on the other thread, We still need 8 to 10 points,at the moment I don’t see where our next win will come.

 

Firstly, fair play Mansfield. Best team we’ve played and best fans that have visited. Good luck rest of the season.

RE City, we have some disgraceful footballers. Songoo is a poor CB, Daly offers nothing (Cooke should start EVERY TIME) and Theo Robinson, wow. That looked like a Trueman-picked side today but I hope we never see Hughes start Theo again. Horrific performance - the bloke is a complete waste of space.

Gillead did well. Foulds a bit iffy today. Hendrie got forward well. Watt very quiet.

thought we shaded first half before their goal (their first shot on goal I think) but that deflected second soon after the break killed it. We never looked like getting back into the game. Cook was very poor again.

Eyeopener for the new boss.

We need to aspire to be at Mansfield’s level…..we are miles off.

 

I agree, I felt deflated when I saw the team sheet. However, we played better and we kept going. Individual errors costs us again, but I still think it is partly confidence issue when you win several on the trot you love playing, when you are losing everything you try to do goes wrong and especially with lower league players.

just listened to MH what a refreshing change. Optimistic and calm and he is no doubt we will get better with a full week with the team.

 

Loads of clapping and back slapping on the wireless and from the commentary team post match. I think they've forgot we lost 2-0 at home today, and have lost four on the spin. All smiles and chuckles. I was worried that they'd be overawed by Hughes, and they have been. Yep it's his first job in charge etc....but shouldn't hide the fact that we're still plummeting down the league. If you tuned in without knowing the result, you'd have thought we'd won by a big margin. Why can't they get Rupp on a phone in interview?

 

This squad is utterly woeful.

We've got one senior centre half at the club.

Fullbacks who couldn't cross a road. And for that matter, not a single player in this squad can cross a ball.

Songo'o? Do me a favour, the bloke couldn't pass wind. No point passing it to him, just hoof it out of play and cut out the middle man.

And don't get me started on the strike force. Six of them and only one is anywhere near good enough.

Genuinely think the side that finished rock bottom of L1 was better than this one. Caddis, AOC, Wood, O'Brien, Payne, Ball, Doyle are all better than players in their respective positions in this side.
