Yeah, cool, at Premier League that's a great idea. He can't scout the whole of Europe for the next big thing, he might know of current, expensive players, but unless he wastes hours scouting youth teams, he isn't going to provide valuable insight.

We don't need the 'next big thing', we need players who can challenge for honours in League One.

Many good managers can juggle coaching and scouting responsibilities at League One level.

So why are we doing what we're doing?

Are our managers/head coaches so time-pressed that they can't figure out who would be good at this level?

 

They are doing it as are other clubs because of influences from the continent. I am sure if experience over time shows it doesn’t work things might change back
I still think leaving a head coach to work exclusively with the players is a good idea providing the scouting and the recruitment provides the right players

 

Give over. Parky signed player after player and loan after loan.

I loved Parky and no one can knock the job he did but he got so many signings wrong. The thing was we had the emergency loan window then so we could use that as a get out of jail free card.

Why are we so scared of this model? It provides consistency. Whether we like it or not there will never be another Fergie or Wenger who stay in the job for year upon year so you need a consistent at the club like we have in Abbott

I don't think the problem is with the model, but how it's being run here. At the moment there's Greg and Edin conducting transfers. In other words only one man on a 'committee' who vaguely knows what he's doing, thats the problem

 

And how many people are on other committees?

 

Edin, as owner must have a say in the transfers. He just can’t give up the money and find out we’ve spent the lot on 3 x 36 year old journeymen with no resale value. It is his money after all. As long as he’s not questioning the ability of said player, over that of a more qualified footballing person, then fair enough.

 

I've no problem with them signing players. The vast majority of players will have been on a shortlist for a while and discussed with previous management.

T&A is suggesting Askey might be interested...

I think that's the real crux of the issue for me. It isn't necessarily a problem with the model as I think it could work, it's an issue of whether the people involved are good enough to make it work.

He's a Manager not an Head Coach, then in the next breath stateing we are nowhere near an appointment.

It’s been at least a fortnight since Rahic implied we were close to appointing someone in his Bantams Banter interview, clearly that’s not happened. Managers will always apply for jobs but it must be off putting when you have something to lose (a good reputation) and the only three guys to previously work under this current set up have all wanted out and walked away in one way or another.

I think word has got out, the fans expect promotion and the budget is a few peanuts. Oh......and recruitment is a 'team effort'....and you've got to blood the youngsters at the first opportunity......and if it goes wrong (which it can't possibly!) then it's your fault and you get the boot.

Our approach is laughable it's like picking names from a hat now.

Ipswich did approach shrewsbury end of Jan to speak to Paul Hurst but he didn't want to leave with shrewsbury doing so well. One reason why Mick McCarthy stayed on until Ipswich were safe from the drop then he left.

The line in that article this morning that we are no nearer appointing someone is a bit worrying
So either the ones we have interviewed have turned us down, or the quality of candidates as been poor
I'm beginning to expect Martin Drury being in charge when the season kicks off
I'm amazed players such as Riley, and as seems likely Wright, are signing for us, when nobody appears to have a clue who the new coach is going to be.

Every manager in the world signs duffers. It doesn't really matter how many duffers you sign, what matters is, do you keep improving the playing staff and results or not?

Year on year on year Parkinson recruited stronger and stronger squads capable of better and better things. That's where the progress came from.

We've seen what Rahic and Abbott recruited last season. Vastly inferior.
