The co-efficent may cause problems but I'm sure it's not designed to show Scotland in a poor light and other countries will have other issues. It's still the best measure of league strength that we have and it ranks the quality of the SPL in 26th place below the leagues in places such as Isreal (18), Cyprus (19) & Azerbaijan (23) and only sightly above the leagues in Belarus (27), Kazakhstan (28) and Lichenstein (31).

Similarly with the players. I too have seen individual players from lower leagues put in amazing performances in one off games against their better fancied opponents. Across the board though it seems that players can shift almost seamlessly between the lower English leagues and the SPL without any issues. Lower down the Scottish pyramid it seems that when players move between league one/league two and the Scottish Championship (or lower) they have more success in Scotland indicating a lower standard.

Players which provide examples of the point would include;

Rangers finished 3rd last year and the players that were recruited from England included Wes Foderingham (last played for Swindon in league one), James Tavernier (Bristol City - league one), Josh Windass (Accrington - league two), Jack Alnwick (Port Vale) & Joe Dodoo (Charlton) which indicates it's pretty easy to shift from theEnglish lower leagues to the top of the SPL.

I'm taking these numbers from wiki so apologies if there's any inaccuracies however the Top Scorer in the Championship - Stephen Dobbie has scored 37 in 66 for QoS = the last time he played in England he scored 4 in 24 for Bolton, 4 in 27 for Fleetwood and 4 in 27 for Blackpool. He's not the only one, you can pretty much go down the lost of the top scorers in the Scottish Championship and each time these players have had an opportunity to play in England they will have had less success. Our experiences with Mark Stewart and Chris Mitchell provide further evidence even closer to home

Similarly the Global Sports Salaries survey indicated that one of the teams in the SPL paid their players on average just £42k. Lower than you would probably find in league 2 and another indicator of the respective quality.

In terms of money, success and the standard of players it's difficult to argue that the Scottish leagues - especially the leagues Hopkins has come from - are of a good level.

Like everything else it’s how you make use of it. I use Facebook mainly to keep up to date with what’s happening with the extended family and some if the stuff on nostalgic Bradford . Twitter is ok if you follow the right people.
