    Very hard these days to make an in demand player sign a new contract. They know their worth is magnified when out of contract.

    I said “Do not get me wrong, I think there is some merit in looking at nurturing young talent be it ‘released’ from other clubs or home grown, but to rely on that model and not sign players who have demonstrated that they can perform and are approaching their best years, seems a fallacy to me.”

    The message that is coming out is a very strong focus on signing (cost conscious) development players.

    @Bantamsteve@Bantamsteve pointed out we had ‘sold’ players. The ones we apparently got a fee for were Clarke to Charlton, who was a seasoned professional when he signed for City, and Hanson who bizarrely May have fitted the development model. Neither were signed by the current regime and perhaps deemed surplus to their requirements.

    But I don’t accept that we haven’t signed experienced players McGowan Kilgallon NKP we have just signed Wright and others will follow. Edin said it was about balance with players from different age groups. But with a culture that encourages youth

    You have to look at signings in the context of when they were made. We have signed experienced players. Kilgallon is at the sunset end of his career having had long spells out due to injury and had been hoping for a move to the USA. NKP was in effect an emergency signing, he and Kilgallon came as we were desperately short of players given Stuart’s late appointment. McGowan was playing in the Gulf States and was hoping to get a call up for Australia and needed to be in the ‘shop window’. Wright I acknowledge seems an unhurried and targeted signing, at an age when he has matured, yet has the potential peak of his career to enjoy.

    I don't think you've fairly represented that at all.

    They responded to say its incorrect and the journalist should get in touch.

    They didn't try to engage in debate or ask for further details.

    ......if they hadn't have responded would everyone have assumed what the journalist had said was true?

    The problem with social media these days for me. All that's created is an argument. Everyone thinks they know the truth but they actually only TELL their VERSION of the truth which just winds everyone else up.

    Can't do right for doing wrong.
