    are we talking "fans" of other clubs who have never seen a real life game with their club, converting to a "new" club on actually seeing said "new" club match in the flesh and getting caught up in the whole thing?
    But I reckon not too many switch from one club to another despite having actively watched the original team for a good length of time.

    Always seen a difference between a Fan and a Supporter.

    A Fan doesn’t actually have to have gone to a game, or put anything into the club. A fan can watch on the TV and know about a club, but demonstrate no tangible connection.

    A Supporter, does just that. Goes to a game and actively gets behind the team directly, they also invest in the club through purchase of tickets and often merchandise and food/drink.

    Absolutely spot on mate and this is why I was careful with the words used in my responses, such as;

    I'm another example.
    It's always been about who you go to watch live, for me.

    I was born and brought up in south west Essex - natural West Ham territory. But, as a kid, I 'supported' Arsenal (via TV) because my mum was a gooner and my uncle Bill took me to Highbury a couple of times ( - @Bronco@Bronco - first game I saw live Arsenal beat Everton 3-1. Joe Baker and George Eastham scored).

    Then, in 1974, I started work and began going out with a girl at work who was a massive West Ham fan. She dragged me along to Upton Park a few times and after about four or five games I was hooked, because the live experience meant I quickly formed an affinity with the West Ham players I was watching live. I never meant to switch; it just happened, because seeing the live games meant so much more to me than watching occasional highlights of Arsenal games on the tele. I went to virtually every West Ham home game for the next six years.

    Then in 1980, aged 24, I started at Bradford University. I couldn't afford to go to West Ham away games regularly, but remained an armchair fan. I also went to a small number of City games.
    When I started work in Bradford in 1984 I began going to more City games and the process happened again. I quickly formed an affinity with the players I was watching live and became an active City fan. I'm still an armchair Hammer, as my 'other' team, but when City played West Ham at Upton Park in the PL era I was there wearing claret and amber rather than claret & blue.

    You know that in the row of 6 seats we have, that no-one was born in Bradford other than myself. No one actually now lives in Bradford, yet 6 season tickets and a lot of commitment! True supporters albeit at some distance.

    I'd have definitely drawn a line at that!

    I always hated Leeds, going back to the Revie era.

    So if true you would think Gerrard, Carra, Spearing, Gary Jones, Hanson etc will be involved

    Just read that GB took the whole squad to the launch of an event for the Darby/Rimmer foundation at Anfield earlier in the week.
    Fantastic gesture from BCAFC to show continued activity for the foundation and great from all individual players to be so committed as a squad.
    It seems that both clubs have been working on another match next summer for us all to look forward to and another great example of what
    a class act Liverpool Football Club is in everything they do.
