Liverpool fans hate the England national team - you'll never see a Liverpool flag at an England game.

They boo the English national anthem whenever they can - that's why when away fans come to Anfield they sing God Save Our King and it's booed around the stadium.

Get your facts right.

Educate yourselves gentlemen. Even on this Liverpool based site they are happy to use the phrase "Scouse not English" in representation of a proportion of their own supporters.

This has little to do with the original point of the thread but @bantamlad92 is correct in his post you are both mocking.

 

I think the words 'a proportion' are the salient words here. Writing off all scousers, or even all Liverpool fans, as anti-English is a sweeping generalisation. It's like saying all Millwall fans are racist hooligans.

 

Find me an official Millwall fan site describing a vast proportion of their own fans as racist hooligans and I'll agree.

 

Of course you won't. Any more than you'll find the official Liverpool website proclaiming anti-English sentiments or the official BCFC website slagging off Leeds or Huddersfield fans.

This is Anfield is an independent site (as it proudly proclaims on its sign-up page). It promotes particular views, not necessarily shared by all, or even a majority of Liverpool fans. It's a hardcore fan's site representing strong partisan Liverpool views that is no more representative of all Liverpool fans than Tom & Dom or this forum are of all City fans. It talks of a 'substantial section' of Liverpool fans not 'engaging with the national team's fortunes at major tournaments'. That's a long way from being actively anti-English, as bantamlad92 claims they are. Who knew that not waving a flag of St George at football grounds makes you anti-English? And 'a substantial section' could mean anything - 10/20/30% - who knows?

There is undoubtedly a deep rooted resentment amongst many people in Liverpool (not just Liverpool FC fans) about the way their fans were unfairly scapegoated over Hillsborough, and that resentment is exacerbated by it happening again over last year's EUFA/French fiasco. That resentment is also tied up with the way they were treated and portrayed by the Thatcher government and other Tories since then. But being against the old school tie, upper middle class, right wing establishment of this country is, again, not the same as being anti-English, much as right wingers would like to portray it as such. They may be anti some people's idea of what it is to be English, but that's not the same thing at all as being anti-English.

I really don't have any knowledge of this subject not that it bothers me. But the comment still made me chuckle.

 

On Coronation Day, they have booed the NA. They are entitled to their republican views, but they made it impossible for fans to actually sing the NA. I actually have supported Liverpool for a long time, but this is disgraceful.

 

Agree very poor taste, by all means don't acknowledge the National Anthem but don't boo.

 

They should refuse to accept any dole money that features the Royal Family on their notes ...

I thought everyone knew about the english hating scousers,the pubs are empty whenever england play,my son was amazed when he was in liverpool for the final vs italy as he had his choice of seats,they actually booed abide with me at wembley, which is an absolute disgrace
