Without blaming them for our position Refs have messed up time and time again this season and it has definitely cost us points

I do like the idea of the fourth official being up high, maybe on the camera gantry. I sit on row X in the Midland Road stand, and that has a really good view, without being so elevated as to require a telescope.

I'm going to defend Thornton here. At no point does he actually blame the referee for the result. He always acknowledges that the players themselves also need to take their chances and are responsible for the overall performance. All Thornton does is provide a little more context and - rightly in my opinion - highlights costly refereeing mistakes. He is paid to report a game back to the audience, that includes referee involvement. Nobody can deny that refs have made some bad calls lately - which could have cost us precious points.

People who appear to moan about the commentary on the Pulse appear to react to certain elements of the commentary e.g. the reporting of a bad refereeing decision and switch off to anything else Thornton might add, such as 'the team simply haven't been good enough'.

Because he rarely states we have been good enough.

He goes on and on about refs. It's boring!!

there's absolutely no chance of league one or league two clubs getting VAR or goal-line technology. do people know how much it costs to install and maintain that equipment? from recollection it's about £250k to install and about £80k a year for maintenance of goal-line technology alone.

people are living in a dream world. considering we've just dropped our ticket prices and our budget for next season will probably be reduced - where's the money going to come from for VAR, goal-line technology, ground rent, transfer fees and player salaries? plus all other additional outgoings for the year.

There will be teams at our level and below with far less money than us, once again VAR is for the elite, who don't give a monkey's for Bradford City and the like.

Why can't the FA and Football League fund it, even to a basic extent. FA have allowed VAR into the competition but Newport missed out on a penalty but if it was Man City at home they would have been given it. Level playing fields please. There are cameras at every club now for ifollow so who funded that - EFL so they can make money from distribution rights. Even 1 camera set up towards 18 yard line for pens and offsides monitored by 4th official...they make enough money for God's sake....or just fine Millwall for pitch invasions, racist chanting and fights outside the ground, that would get a fair bit....

Not sure they would finance the cost of maintenance going forward if this comment is true from @brisbanebantams@brisbanebantams "£250k to install and about £80k a year for maintenance of goal-line technology alone"

Why not? It becomes part of the maintenance of football, and there to assist the referees that they pay train and pay.

I'm not sure they would be happy to fiance the instalation and up keep on an annual basis.
    72 x £250,000 around 18m then annual maintenance 72 x £80,000 around £7,760,000, it aint going to happen IMO.

Which end do you want the one camera?
VAR requires a minimum of eight.
The VAR team needed consists of the video assistant referee (VAR) and his three assistant video assistant referees (AVAR1, AVAR2 and AVAR3) plus four replay operators.
And after all that it is the match referee that has the final say anyway.

Thanks for that insight into what would be required, I'd suggesf there is zero chance of the Football League financing and manning VAR at every one of the 72 football league clubs.

Based on last seasons attendances in the EFL, coincidentally just over 18 million, then a first season surcharge of a pound a ticket would cover the install, then maybe 50p in each following season?

    But GLT is doable.
Personally I've very mixed feelings about VAR, seems like it's taking footie another step away from the game I loved

    What about non league club?

The PL is a different organisation and they decided to fund it.

It's simple really. If Bradford City want better ref standards then get promoted through the leagues.

No point moaning about the standards of refs when the standards of our football is poor and more concerning.

Less the ref talk and concentrate on Bradford City.

50p surcharge on all EFL tickets. All money goes into a pool funding installation and maintenance across the 72 EFL clubs. Solves the issue of the really small League Two teams still not getting the money. The remaining money is split evenly between the 72. Using figures from last season (total attendances in Champ/L1 and an approximation for L2 of 1,100,000) this would raise 116,000 for each club. This would therefore have to run for 3 seasons to raise installation money, with almost 100,000 left over per club.
After that, it raises enough for maintenance plus another 36,000.
It’s possible. Won’t happen of course, but there’s always a way.
Just to add, the L2 approximation is from double this season’s total attendance (1.25 mil ish) and then knocked this down a little to give a low estimate.

Bradford City have just reduced their season tickets to £150 pounds.

Point being your idea is a non start because the prices for games are not a level playing field across the board.

Sunderland for example will be paying more towards it than most Div 1 clubs.
