I think they're shite. It's mostly when they're inconsistent that pisses me off.

    Playing devils advocate.

It's very rare when a ref has a good game that you'd go away saying "that ref had a brilliant game today" and telling everyone about it for weeks. If he's had a bad game it's possible it'll be talked about for the next month.

I couldn't think of one game where the ref has been good this season, however I can think of several where they have been awful. People don't remember games where the referee has been fair. I'm sure you will all remember the referee when you played us at the SOL as he gave a few decisions against you, however you may not remember the referees of other games around that time.

You don't need to imagine, mate, we played in League Two and the standard of officiating in League One is night and day.

They may be poor at this level, but at League Two it was absolutely appalling week in, week out.

I consider a ref has had a good game when I don’t notice him! None of us are there to watch whether he gets his decision right or wrong. Some of them are like strutting prima donas, with I am in charge written all over the face. A ref that allows the game to flow, and is consistent with his decisions is what I want to see. A rare breed these days.

I honestly don’t care how much it costs, that is what fans want and if they can’t do it without technology then give it to them, the TV companies can pay for it as their contribution to football, as they make mega bucks out of the fans. It needs to be ring fenced so that it doesn’t become part of the package. If it can be shared via a technology hub' fine.

I think goal line technology is about the best we can hope for, or how about the 4th official sat up in the stands where he would have a better view than at pitchside and be in communication with the ref....

I agree with you re GLT. The Championship started using it last season so a few clubs who were relegated last season and those who will be relegated this season will already have the GLT facilities installed. I suspect League 1 will have it installed within a couple of seasons .. once the EFL has resolved who will pay for it!

I can't imagine VAR being available at our level for many years to come. Although PL teams are currently using VAR, it is officially at this stage only for 'testing' and 'viability' purposes. Personally speaking, GLT would be the limit for me. VAR with its in-built delay would be a step too far for watching football 'live'.

All football fans are biased as hell. We see all our games through a claret and amber lens and judge every incident on that basis. It's part of being a passionate supporter of your team.
If one of our players goes down injured we all howl at the injustice and call for the culprit to be carded. But when it's the other way round we're chanting 'you soft bastard' and swear he's playacting.

If we think the ref has had a good game you can almost guarantee that opposition fans will think he's had a stinker. And vice versa.

There are numerous games in which both sets of fans are equally convinced that all the key decisions went against their team.

For every penalty we haven't been given there'll be another that oppo fans were convinced should have been awarded against us.

This is football, and the subjectivity is actually part of what makes it fun. I reserve the right to shout 'you don't know what you're doing' with the rest of them. But do I want games being held up several times to check decisions on video? No I bloody well do not. Refereeing is a really difficult job. Cut 'em some slack FFS.

2 blatant off sides one that led to a goal for Liverpool that should not have stood, Lines person on the spot appearing to see it clearly yet kept his flag down, How does the F.A justify continuing using them after such blatant incompetence?

These are supposed to be the elite. Before the game I'd have been delighted with a point, but left feeling like we'd been beaten. Such is football

It would be interesting to read what the FA want from referees.Do they expect a certain number of bookings? Sometimes refs stop the game for every daft niggling tackle and it totally ruins the game from a spectator and player perspective.

Having referees and assessors writing to the club apologising for getting crucial decisions wrong,Sunderland away,Burton away etc, just rubs salt into the wound and no doubt resurrects the sense of injustice. If we go down by a margin of the points lost by these wrong decisions then their apologies will be meaningless.

The refs have communication with the assistants, why not with fourth or fifth assessor who can immediately review an important moment and ensure the right outcome be it for or against.

If we go down it won't be because of refereeing decisions, it will be because over 46 games we've not been good enough. Take Wycombe. If the referee gives the pen and sends the lad off we still may have missed the pen. Wycombe forced to change shape and tactics and it becomes a different game entirely then who knows. Paynes goal that never was at Sunderland. That gets given and its 1-1. They come out and play a different game to what we saw after that and could have pushed harder for a second. My point is, we can sit and say "that non pen cost us 2 points" or that no goal cost us 2 points" but ultimately it means nothing.

Yes I watched that match, being a closet Liverpool supporter;) no doubt about it, massive offside from Milner for their first goal. Now tell me how he missed that?

Probably because he was too near Milner to see across the line of defenders. The other lino missed the last minute Origi chance as well.

Nope, just the lot of a small club playing a big one, same through football.
Liverpool fans actually believe the equaliser should have been disallowed as Noble impeded Keita :joy:

It's just been said on radio that West Ham's goal would of been disallowed if VAR was out.

@Jason McKeown@Jason McKeown and @EwanJM@EwanJM look the pair of you clearly need to understand that when listening to Pulse Sport we want to focus on the game and not the ref.

As shown last night in the West Ham V Liverpool match that officials will get if wrong. It's football!

The reason Liverpool didn't win last night is because they didn't have the ball in the net often enough.

One of the reason Bradford City don't win often is because they're not hitting the back of the net enough. Manager using wrong tactics and players being weak minded.

Thornton going on about refs every week is truly embarrassing and making your show utter shi&e.

Oh and if the Pulse Sport want to improve the use Francis more.

Not sure about the s**t referees in league one , the fella refereeing tonight's Newport V Boro game must be bloody blind, a stonewall penalty which looked even worse when it showed it from another angle Stuart Attwell was 5 yards away and looking straight at it, the way he's performed he might as well have been Winifred Atwell.

That was a shocker. Mike Flynn will go ballistic when he sees a replay of that. Boro don't look as if they are enjoying their evening at all.
