Edin has a lot to do with it yes but I can't take owners seriously that don't want to buy assets to protect the club.

We can't just blame Edin for where we find ourselves. That's lame.

If current form continues, be interesting to see if average gate goes up. Currently 14132 for league. A 1000 extra bodies each game now would bring In around 350K. That might help on the Cooke front.

I would like to see all sponsorship money and other player
add on money invested in a fund which would go towards
buying our ground back. That would be difficult but if we
owned our ground the rent we pay could then go towards
    Player acquisitions and ground improvements.

Buying that kind of asset would make sense in the long run
but same rule would apply to training facilities.Only when
you own assets can you run your business more profitably.

I wonder if the club give any thought or have any intention
of being in a position to buy the ground?

    Amen!! Amen to this post!

Finally, someone who would be willing to ask serious questions instead of being scared losing a free meat pie in the VP lounge.

The club needs assets! Let's not stop making excuses for not.

Buying the ground would be a much better use of those funds.
What we should be doing is enquiring about the cost of buying Odsal and turning that into a viable football stadium. Once we have the information we can then start negotiating with the pension fund to buy the ground back, we would have a bargaining chip in our pocket.
If as you believe Rupp is only here for the short term, why would you expect him to chuck that sort of money in to buying anything. He would then only need to ask for more money as a sale to recoup it. If he is staying long term then yes I can see a benefit but certainly not short term for him.

I am not advocating going there, I am saying if the only other option is being tied into another lengthy lease, that will be very costly we should look at it as an alternative. This would give us more power in negotiations.
By the time the lease is up the youngest part of the ground will be 30 years old, any lease would include liability for upkeep and maintainance as it does now.

I find it disappointing that we've had to sell another promising kid to the big leagues before he's anywhere near the first team. There's risk in turning down short term windfalls for the chance of something more lucrative down the line, but I'd hoped that having a wealth(ish) owner would allow us to underwrite taking such risks, especially with the latest shortfall being covered by the McBurnie money.

Under the new rules can’t category 1 clubs just take a youth player for something like £50k and you don’t have a choice? Sure I read that somewhere, so we probably didn’t have much choice.

You'd have thought so but not according to ML at the time. He said the PL dangled some money (£50k or so for 3 or possibly 5 years) to sweeten the proposal. The ones who voted against were Championship clubs and a couple in Div 1 who had better academies.

So, let me get this straight. You would be happy to see the back of the current governance structure which is being led by Rhodes and Rupp?

What is it they are actually failing at for you and what would REALISTICALLY be your preferred approach?

There were a couple who disagreed with me the last time I brought this up:

Apparently Rupp had covered the debt and we should be grateful that he's financing us etc..

Atleast we can finally put that myth to bed.

As we are 3rd in the league there are only two teams doing better at the present moment.

That list is hardly testament to a successful academy 'conveyor belt'.

Cleverley left us as an eleven year old 18 years ago. Wisdom left us 11 years ago; Green 8 years ago and most recently McBurnie about 4 years ago. And we only picked him up after he was released by Leeds' academy. That doesn't seem to be a great track record for an established academy. And in the future, EPPP won't provide the same benefits we've had in the past from these kinds of players.

Looking at it from a different direction, the £5m you quote which we've made from these players doesn't compare favourably to the cost of running an academy. A typical Cat 3 academy such as ours currently costs around £300-400k to run per season. On this basis, I can understand why a number of lower league clubs have closed their academy since EPPP was introduced.

Just the club ticking a box mate. Answers that a 5 year old fan would give.

Questions not strong enough and no pressure put on the club. That's why we' are where we currently find ourselves.

Nothing to do with Edin Rahic, and a string of failed coaches and players then?

You tell us that you run several businesses and that you're successful in what you do. So much so, that you have the biggest, flashiest car on BT. I'm therefore intigued to hear from a successful businessman such as yourself how buying assets (to use your example of a £15m training ground) somehow protects the club in the future. Can you share with us all some insight into your world of running successful businesses?

You buy assets that are likely to increase in value.

Those likely to decrease, you lease. As a titan of industry, with a Merc and everything, you obviously know this Fordy....

Is VP likely to increase, or even retain its value?

It was either 2011 or 2012.

About a third of EFL clubs voted against it but we voted with the majority in favour of it.
