No thanks. Terrible location, nothing to do around the area, pain in the arse to get there unless you're an away fan straight off the motorway. VP is in a great location. Right on the bus routes, 10 min walk from the Train station, walking distance from bars and restaurants pre and post match. I would despise going to Odsal, maybe even consider not going.

I’d rather spend money on a decent squad than on facilities no better, or even worse than our current lot just to say they’re ours. We’ve got some of the best outside the top 2 leagues, get there first then worry about new bloody facilities! One season in the Premier League and we could get 10x better facilities than we have now and still pay for a squad, pointless at this level spending big money on anything other than players, they’re the biggest asset to any club wanting to progress.

By assets I presume you mean the training ground as you mention in it your earlier post. Out of interest, how much do you think it would cost to buy outright our own training facilities of at least the same quality that we have use of now? A mixture of turf and all weather pitches, changing rooms and showers, a gym, pool, physio room, offices, canteen and dining area, not forgetting the land needed to build it all on. All of that won't come cheap and where will it get us? Oh that's right, we'd have an asset to our name when we go bust from spending millions we don't have on facilities we don't need because we already have them.

4 players over nearly 20 years, the majority of whom left in or before their early teens, isn't us building a conveyor belt of talent. I couldn't say for certain, but I'd expect that the majority of clubs with academies in the 2-3 leagues below the premiership have similar numbers of young players with potential hoovered up by the big boys. Its not a reflection of anything we're doing.

To me, a conveyor belt of talent is that during most seasons we have 1-2 young players coming through our ranks, or joining us after being released from other, bigger clubs, who establish themselves as first team players with potential for resale. Wood is a good example - we need to find more like him on a regular basis. Then, its a conveyor belt.

The Parkinson cycle wasn't built on emphasis of youth. Quite the opposite. He went for seasoned pro's, generally constrained by the short term financial landscape we had and benefitted from cup runs.

Well said Petrov. Land purchase, construction costs, fees and finance, equals a minimum of £15 million. The Council centre at Sedbergh currently stands at £18 million excluding site acquisition . Say no more.

Are we talking about Bradford City here ?.
We're 3rd in the league even with this crap coach and a manager who doesn't know what he's doing bringing the likes of Chris Taylor to the club.
We were a shambles last season and we all know why, we couldn't buy a win. Yet this poor manager and Drury (someone Bowyer doesn't want apparently) have us 3 in the league 2 points of the leaders, with several players injured most of this season..
What happens if we don't go up, we stay in league two and try and get out next season, before the season started many were saying with the upheaval of last season promotion this season may not be possible.
13 games played and we stand third your a hard man to please @Fordy117@Fordy117.

There was a time when, to a degree, I would have agreed with the argument that buying the ground / training ground seemed the obvious way to go.

However, all I see nowadays are a string of owners buying into Clubs only to strip them of their assets. Owning the ground hasn't helped Bury much has it.

Yes, I'd like to see the Club get better 'control' of Valley Parade, but only if the appropriate protections are put in place.

    Please don't exaggerate.

Lincoln City - £1.5m new facility consisting of pitches, gym, changing rooms, offices etc.
    https://thelincolnite.co.uk/2018/11/first-look-at-imps-1-3m-training-facility/

Mansfield Town - £2m new facility, 3G pitch, 3 grass pitches, changing rooms, physio rooms and a community centre.
    https://www.chad.co.uk/sport/football/mansfield-town/mansfield-town-enjoying-life-at-new-training-ground-1-9535203/amp

Granted Mansfield had theirs paid mostly for by their owner but Lincoln's was fully funded by their FA cup run.

As a fan I won’t be taking any blame for any of our relegations, just like I wouldn’t take some strange credit when we get promotions. What a weird stance. The fans did play a part last season getting rid of Rahic, so I’d say credits due for that but not what happens on the pitch. That’s down to players, coaches and the owners who hire them and give the budget etc.

I do agree our media are crap though, they’re in a position to be heard and only toe the party line.

Rupp obviously doesn’t go without criticism as he’s one of the owners, he’s certainly negligent as it happened to his business on his watch. But he’s sacked the destructive Rahic, and is now steadily trying to put it right by putting people like Rhodes in place to run the club as he himself had admitted that he knows little about football. At this stage all he can do is right his wrongs and if we give I’m a bit of patience I think that’ll happen. Although I do think he’d sell for the right offer, but everything is for sale at the right price.

We have 9 years left of the lease at VP at nearly 500k per annum rent, The smart move would be to take out a 10 year mortgage and buy the ground, The payments would roughly be the same but we would own the ground at the end instead of having to sign another 25 year lease with 3 yearly rent reviews

Dont know the exact details, but City have recently 'sold' a youngster to a Premiership club and because of the new rules, we wont see anywhere near as much as we did for the likes of Wisdom. It seems unfair to lowly league clubs in my opinion

Spending £400,000 each year on the Academy is just money wasted by the club, With the EPPP now stopping any decent returns on player sales and very very few players making it through to the first team the smart move would be to spend the £400,00 on players,
Just think of the possibility of buying one or two £200,000 player each season and what that could do to improving the team and chances of getting to the championship, The Academy and bringing on young players is noble but does not make any sense to Bradford City as it stands,

Your comments re Academy status are right, Dennis. I don't remember which season, possibly 2013/14 we played Colchester, the game was beamed back to VP, we lost badly with an awful performance, made worse as I was the only Director there, my colleagues failing to tell me whilst away on holiday about the beam back!, getting a huge blow out on the way home and ending a 12 hour journey on a truck.
The good thing which came out was a discussion with Robbie and Richard Cowling, the U's owners who planned to upgrade the Academy to Cat 2, which they did. Robbie told me the cost would be an extra £800k per year, making the total in the order of £1.2 million. They put all their resource at that and were relegated to L2 in 2016 and won't be back any time soon. Their Academy is hailed as very good but has not really produced and with small crowds they are stuck.
    A lesson there somewhere.

Just another PR exercise really. Nothing wrong with that I suppose but anyone looking for ground breaking revelations at these type of meetings is clearly going to be disappointed.

How does spending 15m on a new training complex generate more money?

It's a formula-based approach and depends on how long the youth has been under development at his original 'selling' club and the category of the 'buying' club. The compensation arrangements are all detailed in the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP and not FFP!) and from memory the upfront compensation fee for somebody who has spent 4 years at an academy like ours is around £50k at our level and slightly higher if the youth has spent all of his development time at the club. There are potential additional payments in the future linked to first team appearances. But it's the Cat 1 buying club which now holds most of the cards.

Unless you get into a bidding war between Cat 1 clubs, the days of significant fees upfront for academy players are long gone. Several years ago, we were one of the many lower league clubs who voted for the EPPP proposals. That decision might well cost us dear in the future.

So if Sheffield Utd stay up, we get another lump of cash for the McBurnie deal? I wonder if we could use that money to sign Cooke permanently if he continues the early season form.
