    Dont know the exact details, but City have recently 'sold' a youngster to a Premiership club and because of the new rules, we wont see anywhere near as much as we did for the likes of Wisdom. It seems unfair to lowly league clubs in my opinion

    It's a formula-based approach and depends on how long the youth has been under development at his original 'selling' club and the category of the 'buying' club. The compensation arrangements are all detailed in the Elite Player Performance Plan (EPPP and not FFP!) and from memory the upfront compensation fee for somebody who has spent 4 years at an academy like ours is around £50k at our level and slightly higher if the youth has spent all of his development time at the club. There are potential additional payments in the future linked to first team appearances. But it's the Cat 1 buying club which now holds most of the cards.

    Unless you get into a bidding war between Cat 1 clubs, the days of significant fees upfront for academy players are long gone. Several years ago, we were one of the many lower league clubs who voted for the EPPP proposals. That decision might well cost us dear in the future.

    It was either 2011 or 2012.

    About a third of EFL clubs voted against it but we voted with the majority in favour of it.

    @Dennis@Dennis i thought we voted against the idea seeing as though most of our income from previous years had come from youth sales ie green, cleverly, wisdom and the keeper that went to boro?

    You'd have thought so but not according to ML at the time. He said the PL dangled some money (£50k or so for 3 or possibly 5 years) to sweeten the proposal. The ones who voted against were Championship clubs and a couple in Div 1 who had better academies.

    So, let me get this straight. You would be happy to see the back of the current governance structure which is being led by Rhodes and Rupp?

    What is it they are actually failing at for you and what would REALISTICALLY be your preferred approach?

    Well im staggered. I could understand some clubs who hardly ever produce players and concentrated their spend elsewhere taking the quick buck but it seemed madness us doing it whilst we were churning out kids reasonably regularly.

    I wonder if we knew the vote would be lost so went with the grain as to not upset the applecart so to speak

    There were a couple who disagreed with me the last time I brought this up:

    Apparently Rupp had covered the debt and we should be grateful that he's financing us etc..

    Atleast we can finally put that myth to bed.

    That is a lot of short sentences. Not sure which are questions and which are statements.

    To help, in the future perhaps you can compose some clear and concise questions. No rush at all, just come up with some well thought out balanced questions. Perhaps a word document which you type up and have a look at several times, revising/refining before you copy and paste on to a new thread.
