Nowt against Kai as a bloke, said that from day one, but the whole affair has been ridiculous. Brunker was nowhere near League One standard, however he was fine for those last 5-10 minutes when a game was either already won or lost. The fact we, at times, seemed to rely on him as a first team player was extremely concerning and indicative of everything we got so badly wrong.
If he's improved due to the level of coaching post-Collins, great! Hope he goes back to a slightly higher standard in Germany, or shows off whatever improvements he may have made, and if it helps him earn more money (or even continue as a pro) then it was all worth it for the lad!

I don't actually think he was as bad as you and some others make out. He showed in the Oxford game that he could give L1 CBs a tough time. He was far more effective in that game than Doyle had been by that point in the season. If we'd had any wingers he'd probably have bagged the odd header from time to time.
If it means we're getting a better striker in then of course I'm glad about that. But I still have a soft spot for Kai for his attitude through a very difficult time when others were giving up the ghost. -
first of many pointless players at this club at the minute. am going to enjoy this clear out.

Forward already signed then otherwise they wouldn't have released him I wouldn't have thought.

Agree with @BoingBoing on this one, for all his effort and endeavour, the fact is Bruenker was short on talent and ultimately, this is what we need.
Weve tried with him, he has improved, probably with fitness and yes hes a unit, but the fact is he never really looked likely to score, and to progress we need players better than him. A likeable character, good luck to him but theres no room for sentiment in our position. We need better and I for one am glad to see him move onbantamdave41, Bronco, Skyebantam and 2 others like this. -

Lots of people have said he'd be nowhere near Halifax or Bradford Park Avenue, and I 100 % agree - no surprise to hear you say he would struggle at Heybridge, it looked like that from the first minute and never really looked any rosier for the lad.
But he legitimately tried hard, which is why I never booed the lad, nor would I ever. It wasn't his fault he got a job he simply wasn't qualified for, it happens, it's not a fault in his personality or anything so never held anything against him. Wish him good luck, but feel his new team may have slightly overestimated his ability on the basis of the number of minutes he got here.TallinnBantam, Damo, Interested Bystander and 2 others like this. -
Looking back, you've just got to laugh.
The squad was on its knees during the transfer window, we'd been stuffed by Rotherham, Killa was on the radio pleading for reinforcements to give us a lift. McCall needed help.
After talking ourselves up as being in for 750k-rated Ipswich forward Kieffer Moore we then turned our attention to Kai Brunker.
It just summed up Rahic's reign. A pure Championship Manager (the game) and a warped fantasist. If we were genuinely in for Moore then there is no way on earth, having missed out on him, you'd then move onto Brunker or any other player from the German third tier when you are trying to sustain a promotion push, as your next target.
I don't think Abbott had anything to do with getting Brunker in at all, though Abbo did himself no favours with his stubborn defence of our activity during the transfer window when questioned at the fans forum later. "Prepared"? Yeah, right.
Thank God both have moved on.
Kai was just a pawn and thankfully nearly all fans recognised that. He was given an opportunity to play professionally and took it - as any aspiring footballer would. To try and move to a new country and settle at a club as toxic as ours must have been difficult.
He was no where near good enough for L1 but he tried his hardest and at least seems to have left with a favourable impression of the club - thankful of the opportunity he received, even though it didn't work out. -
The clear out continues!

Hopkin has clearly agreed to this move so I’d rather take his opinion of the boy that you. Even if that does make me “curmudgeon”....!
At the end of the day, his stats would show;

Likeablily - 80%
Ability - 40%
