January transfer window

Not the best January but I am happier coming out than going in. It’s a bit confusing why we let our captain go but it happens and if it goes wrong DA has to wear it.
I do think one place we needed to strengthen was at the back and we seem to have weakened it. If it gives a Staunton a chance though I am all for it. Let’s be honest NC wasn’t exactly the best CH and we have Songo’o who is crap in centre mid.
Hopefully DA gets a reaction from the team.

 

So woken up to the news of the Hendrie and Delfouenso signings and the fact we haven't replaced Canavan.

The window smacks of seeing the season out and looking ahead already to a massive clearout in the summer under Adams. Or, perhaps the faint rumours of a consortium takeover is on the horizon.

Whatever it is, another underwhelming if not bizarre window.

 

So our superb new scouting set up have brought us in another non scoring striker my word our forward line must be the envy of league 2 .............. a striker who gets goals but is injury prone and 4 others who have 20 goals between them in the last 300 games ...........

 

Luke Hendrie. Well at least Adams can now let him on the bus, before he throws him under it.

 

I said last night selling Canavan was a good bit of business as he had been poor for the last few years. However, I genuinely believed that not even our basketcase owners and manager would have allowed this to happen without a replacement lined up.

Ah well, there is always the chance of signing an out of contract Centre half who hasn't played for anyone since last season

The one saving grace is should Adams get the boot, he hasn’t signed any of these beyond the end of the season. A new man can clear the decks and build a squad of mainly his own men.

 

Selling canavan ,with no replacement is hardly a good move , they will say the normal bull of the money gained will be spent on the team in the summer .

 

If Rupp, Sparks & Adams were US Union Generals, they would be George McClellan & Henry Halleck. Frightened to attack the problem because they don't know how. Frightened to use the superior resources they have. Tactically inept. Dead men walking whose actions cause untold collateral damage.

If Lincoln hadn't removed them from the theatre of action the rebels would have won the war by 1863. If they collectively don't get removed from this theatre of action we will start the 23/24 season in the National League.

 

Although I agree that it’s not a good idea to not have a replacement I believe Osongo’o will do a good job there and I really want Staunton to get game time. It’s clearly better for NC, he has probably been told he won’t be getting a new contract as we need better and at 30 he is unlikely to improve.
Not ideal but I am content. (Untill we concede 3 tonight against a team that can’t score, then I will be slating the decision. )

id day we’ve strengthened it. A far better keeper and Hendrie will be far better than the other 2 right backs plus Songo’o is no worse in the middle of defence

 

Well another embarrassing transfer window whilst MANSFIELD sign Longstaff from Newcastle this is what Dereks scouting network can come up with:
Pereira - Who??? Now we have too many loans won’t even get in the squad.
Walker - Only half decent signing he is already wondering why he came!!!
Bass - Looks ok did we really need to waste a loan space on a keeper???
Daly - Same as what we already have another No 10 we didn’t need.
Elliott - The goal scoring striker with pace we needed? No. Ok as backup to Cook I suppose.
Hendrie - Will take FCD place on the bench as Adams doesn’t like youngsters and no chance Threlkeld will be dropped.
Delfounso - See Elliott above!!!!

Outs

Canavan - Perhaps not the best but hasn’t been replaced leaving us with 1 real centre half!!!!
Hornby - If you did want another keeper sent the wrong one out as saving wages should have been priority as not much to choose between Hornby & ROD.

Jesus I can’t wait for tonight!!! Must be mad to even consider still going…….

where is hendrie going to play ? Adams won't drop his lovechild.

 

Whilst I’m bewildered there is no replacement signed for Canavan, can we honestly say he will desperately be missed? He was likely leaving at the end of the season, not performing great and we got a fee for him - not overly happy, but I get it.
Fully expect Songo’o to replace him at both CB and as captain - fine with me. For those who have harped on that Staunton should be getting a look in, surely this makes you happy as he’s one step closer to getting that?

As for the rest of the window:
Bass and Walker - upgrades
Hendrie - on paper, upgrade
Elliott and Delfounso - upgrade on Robinson and Lavery
Pereira - who knows??!!!

I gave up hope on play offs after the spineless Carlisle performance and there’s been nothing, other than a period of the first half against Crawley, within our performances that indicate we are anywhere near capable to changing that.

I understand the disbelief the majority of us have, I share it, but the changes needed within this club are far greater than the 2022 January transfer window or indeed the 2021-22 season. Im actually still pro-Adams. Don’t like his current football or some of his actions, but I’d prefer him in place right now and focus on changing things at the very top and the overall culture of this club than sacking him and been in exactly the same position we’ve been in many times before.

Based on that, this window I’m not going to lose sleep about……..not worth it until bigger changes are made.

 

Say what you want about Turnbull, but I guarantee you he would have got both Evans & ROD off the wage bill.

 

Why do we now have 5 strikers when we only play with 1!

 

6 if you include Angol, although he can't play, obvs.

 

Im not sure what the plan is at all. I dont understand why it appears the club are throwing the season when there are still 57 points to play for. Unless Adams actually thinks that everyone can leave in the summer and the club will try again.
We could have improved the defence and central midfield yesterday without a doubt but instead he makes the defence weaker and doesnt improve us in the middle.

 

Smacks of a treading water transfer window if ever there was one but I will give the new lads a chance. If Canavan was as bad as being made out then he is no great loss.

EL Del certainly makes some strange decisions and likes his washed up strikers.
