We had a good view of him first half. He won every header knocking down in dangerous positions he also held the ball up well. Exact what we need

Never, our central defenders were under very little threat throughout the game, never been that impressed with Cook whenever I've seen him.

Tbh I’m not really sure where you’re going with this? Yes, Wood is an excellent crosser of a ball and is capable of and often does get forward well. That doesn’t mean James Meredith wasn’t given a licence to attack when he clearly was, it doesn’t mean that we play an attacking brand of football when the formation we use clearly focuses more on defence than it does attack and it doesn’t mean that our current set up is more attacking than Parkinson’s 4-4-2, especially when we seem to have less attacking outlets on the pitch. It’s one player, one set of stats and there are other factors to consider outside of Connor Wood which you’re reluctant to address? The main one imo is our formation. I’ve brought this up twice but you’ve ignored it to repeat the same meaningless point.

You said about us being ultra defensive and the full backs don't get forward I clearly pointed out if that was the case wood wouldn't have had the best ratio of crosses in the entire football league so that throws that out of the window. If you said the football is defensive minded in terms of how we play 3 at the back with 2 midfielders sitting in front majority of the time I may agree but to say the full backs don't get forward is laughable.

To be honest, I wouldn't judge too many individuals on opposition teams at VP this season.

Absolute nobody has looked good at VP.

We play a compact 532 with the full backs giving the width. I do think our midfield sits a bit deep especially Cooke I like him further forward possibly with Donaldson back to hold the ball up it will allow him to push forward more

Woods attacking play was better earlier in the season when we played in a back 4. Since we moved to a back 5, his sublime crossing hasn’t been evident on too many occasions, which is why I believe our current formation is generally a conservative back 5 designed to keep the goals out as opposed to the attacking alternative which would see him get down the flank and supply the strikers with greater regularity. This doesn’t mean that Wood never gets forwards and doesn’t have a good cross on him. He does. i’m simply referring to a 3 or 4 game period since we switched to a 5-3-2, which Iv’e tried to make as clear as possible in my posts. Citing season long stats is pointless in the context of the discussion and I have no idea why you persist on doing it.

Your obsession with Wiod is a bit odd. I didn’t even mention anything about fullbacks, I simply referred to “a flat back 5” once in a sentence, it was one of several points I made and your default response, whether its arguing about Meredith’s license to get forward, Bowyer’s style of football or Parkinson’s ability to attack is telling me about Connor Wood’s crossing ability. How odd.

What are your thoughts on our setup? Does playing without wingers hinder us? How do we get the best out of our strikers? Anything other than repeating the same point over and over again?

Aren’t we currently paying a couple of grand a week for a player to score for Swindon? I’m sure Clarke will want to be playing games and he won’t get that at Sheffield. Wilder will surely just let him go get games, even if not in L2 for us

TBF, Wood got that accolade whilst he was playing in the more advanced role. He admitted he was surprised himself that he’s still the most accurate for crossing. He hasn’t put in the most crosses. It’s just that when he does, they are more accurate than most.

Young Ryan Edmonson not getting a game at Leeds. Worth an enquiry.

He's probably on five-figure per week wages.

    https://www.sheffieldunited.news/news/why-leon-clarke-reportedly-did-not-leave-sheffield-united-on-deadline-day/

The reason he didn't leave already is down to his wage.

very rare that most of the opinions on any forum are similar, but even rarer on here. It seems blatantly obvious to all of us who we think we need to be getting rid of. As for Doyle, if we are going to play 442 and he has a target man or someone who can hold the ball up and is good with his back to goal such as CD next to him, as well as a midfield and wingers supply him we 100% need to bring him back. if we are going to ask him to be dropping back and fire balls at his head all game then leave him where he is and try get a payout. The main area for me is RB you couldn't make a decent player if you combined Henley and Mellor. i mentioned giving A o'C a run at RB he has played MF before as well as scoring a few last season so doubt it would be something he couldn't do in terms of going forward and been comfortable.

Disagree Park. Immobile, barely won a header against our dominant central defenders, never looked a goal threat. He looked a non league striker to me. I know Mansfield fans were expecting much better after signing him in the summer.

Up to the last match he had the most accurate crossing stats in the entire football league. Azpilicueta at Chelsea was second.

We should be looking to offload Akpan, Anderson and McCarten to free up some money.
We have to try and bring Doyle back if we get can get rid of those players and I'd like to see a tough tackling midfielder.

    What makes you think that?

Not one single goal from 18 appearances for Fleetwood this season

He’s fallen out with Barton and only made one start I think so harsh to judge on this season. Good age at 24. 8 goals and 11 assists last season when playing regularly. Can play either wing. A drop in league think he’s a very good signing

Donaldson and Doyle would make a good pairing with plenty of goals
