If you remember @Aaron Baker@Aaron Baker I was in Egypt and PM you on C& B asking why they had not given the job to Colin Cooper who took over from Jacko and I believe won his 2 games in charge ?, I thought a little unfair at the time but what a cracking appointment that turned out to be.

I'm just saying your standards are unrealistically high. Success at a small club like Colchester and success in Scotland are not dissimilar, and he failed badly everywhere else.

I'm guessing that being from 'outside' scores big with you on its own, since you don't already know the weaknesses of the individual.

Still, he wasn't able to achieve success in L1 and McCall eclipsed his achievements at that level the following season.

Suddenly Stu has become the wrong sort of fit and people are clamouring for the new. Problem is that the situation is still fluid and a no one knows exactly how to judge progress before January. But we also have to note the sad procession of all recent predecessors through those VP revolving doors. Should change be upon us, I sincerely hope that this time we take advantage of some informed judgement. Then again, there is a pattern developing and it's not ALL about who takes on the role as Manager.

They're not mate. Getting Colcester to the Championship (for the first time ever) is in no way comparable to getting Motherwell into 3rd (which happened 4 years before McCall got there) and into Europe (which happened for 3 consecutive years)

In plainly comes down to this - 6 years at this club - some would argue that at least 5 of those were wasted, in addition to failure at Scunthorpe. i don't see his credentials apart from his name. No success in England at all.

Parkinson wasn't you're quite right, and McCall managed to lose to the same opposition at a stage later so I suppose if you want to count that as success you can do.

I like to see managers leave clubs in better league positions than they found them - something McCall has never done - and win the big games - once again McCall's record is very light on this - and to have a record of sourcing players and improving them which is a bit more subjective but I don't think McCall shines on either.

What is this argument about 'never leaving a club in a better position' - Stuart took City closer to promotion than his predecessor and left us in the play off spots - he was sacked by a lunatic. He did extremely well at Motherwell, overseeing the most successful period in the clubs history.

Your criticism is that he stays too long, or what?

Not that he stays too long as such and it's not particular to Stuart.

I think that good managers take clubs and push them forward, not just take them on a slight up and then leave them on a downward spiral.

You want a manager that takes over a club in 18th for example and leaves them is 6th, or takes over them in league 2 and leaves them in league 1. If that isn't the case then what is the actual point? Stuart has NEVER done this, every time he's taken over a club he has left them lower in the league or in exactly the same position.

He takes over clubs in good positions and leaves them in good positions is how I can see it based on us and Motherwell.

I would think that case is reserved for managers who takes clubs significantly backwards.

    Just seems a strange criticism.

We were 16th in league two when he left us the first time. Is that a good position?

He left Scunthorpe in 18th - 2 points above the relegation zone. Is that a good position?

He left Motherwell second bottom of the league. Is that a good position?

Is this going to be like the 'ego' statement?

If we’d kept with Parky and let him retain the control he had, with just a little more cash, we’d be a Championship club now.

Do you want to do the same with every manager in history, or is Stuart in a small club where he had unsuccessful periods AS WELL AS successful periods?

You're way too far over to be credible. How did Parky leave his other clubs? Lower or higher?

'But he did badly' is something pretty much EVERY manager goes through. Pretending Stuart has no history of success is bizarre. It's a bit like arguing with a conspiracy theorist armed with endless memes, illogical articles, and stupid YouTube videos.

Motherwell in Europe in successive seasons was a good achievement - no it wasn't, they had one bad season - okay, well getting to Wembley with City was a solid outcome - no it wasn't, Edin sacked him!

    Yeah, okay, mate.

I'm leaving this as you cannot concede concrete facts just because it shows Stuart isn't a terrible manager.

If only Rhodes had stayed we might have maintained the success we were having... Now there's an unpopular opinion on this forum!

And Sutton. Stuart seems to pick players he's signed even though it's obvious they aren't good enough.

I can see the appeal in Sutton. Yes he is raw and is proving a bit of a liability at the moment with his red cards, but he does have an energy and a drive that we are missing. I genuinely think Sutton will come good for us

I do it the same with every manager. As I keep saying it's one of the criteria I use to judge them? Do you make up positive facts about all managers or just Stuart?

Parky left Colchester better, Hull worse, Charlton worse (I think), us better. Bolton better. 3 of those at least 1 league better I think? Why do you ask?

Motherwell in Europe is okay. They were in Europe for the years before he was there. Getting them in the Champions league was a good achievement but comes with a caveat.

I suppose it's a bit like pretending he was managing Champions League egos and leaving teams in good positions. I know which set of claims is more ludicrous.

Honestly, watching on TV isn't as good as being there. I literally have not noticed Sutton, and couldn't tell you anything about how he's played :joy:

I noticed him giving the ball away quite a lot. Maybe trying too hard.

yes I agree with that. He did sometimes look like he was trying too hard, but personally I prefer that to looking like not trying. He reminds me a little bit of a poor man's Lee Duxbury

Another midfielder to play in between Sutton's red card suspensions might be handy.
