We all need a sense of humour and having sometimes brutal banter can be a tonic in these trying times. Supporting City can be challenging enough even without covid.

If we do sign someone on a 2 year deal, it could signify he has the blessing of the new CEO, which may indicate he’ll br here beyond the end of the season. If nothing is spent I fear his days may be numbered and he may be gone at the end of the season.

Hate saying this but he’s yesterday’s man IMO, we need to look to the future, be innovative and try something new. Knowing the club, loving the club or whatever bullshit shouldn’t be the criteria. In an era where everyone has the same budget a systematic and scientific approach is what’s needed, taking the marginal gains to get the edge over the rest, not more of the same tired old bollocks.

I understand why people feel that way about Stuart as a manager, but I don't relate to the suggestion he's yesterday's news as a DoF.

Get the gist of this Mike and wouldn't disagree the further up the leagues you go it can make a material difference but i doubt there will be a single club that gets out of this division this season due to 'marginal gains'. A motivated squad of fit players who can produce the basic skills consistently, in a game plan that accomodates the strengths of the individuals will bring you success and get you out of this division. The fine lines and marginal gains are over estimated at this level.

But that's probably because you think Nicky Law has a "Champions League" ego that needs to be carefully managed :joy:

Its because you overstate his achievements and downplay his failures. Would we be calling for someone like Mark McGhee to come in as DoF? I doubt it.

I know we're not going to agree on Stuart, but I'd say you were more overstating his lack of achievement than vice versa.

I generally like what you post, but we're miles apart on Macca.

I don't see how Mark McGhee aligns with Bradford City.

    Can you tell me?

Because Mark McGhee has basically the same profile. Got Motherwell up to third, has one decent season in England. Done nothing ever since, would anyone call for him to lead our club going forward?Edit....actually I do McGhee a disservice, he's had at least 3 good seasons in England, including actual promotions and play off wins! Get him signed up!!

Come on though, you can't talk about Champions League egos when they played in one qualifying round, getting thrashed 5-0 on aggregate, with a squad incorporating players who had been with us in league 2 and then say I'm overstating anything.

Okay, let the egos thing go.

I accept that wasn't accurate, but you are still being overly negative.

But what link does Mark McGhee have with Bradford City to make it the right call?

Honestly, seems like you're being contrary for the sake of it.

McGhee has no link. But why should he have a link? Why is it important? Peter Jackson had a link with City, Phil Parkinson didn't. What is the relevance?

If we're appointing on pure ability and achievements having a link to the club means nothing.

Motivated and good recruitment, nutrition, fitness, psychology etc are mutually exclusive though are they. You can motivate Kurtis all you want and he’s still not scoring for you, Ismail is still going to be injured. Recruit the right players, treat them well, look after then and reap the rewards. Why keep doing the same as you have forever and hoping it will finally work?

My concern is his ability to not only identify players but convince them to join. I too thought he’d be more suited to the DoF role but he’s an “out on the grass” type of man and don’t believe he’d want to be up in the office on the iPad all day.
On the evidence of his recruitment this season his failure to see the squads shortcomings would be a worry.

His decision to keep Guthrie also gives me serious doubts.

    Because he signed him.

McCall's ego is too big. Signed Guthrie who is dog sh@t and can't admit to himself he got it wrong. Sign of a poor manager.

Before people say Bowyer sign Guthrie then if you believe McCall got a phone call the following Monday to join after Bowyer was sacked and he didn't know before then he was joining then you are a god dam idiot.

    And DMH.

In some ways the club could / are putting the brakes on and Stuart is taking the flack through loyalty, without revealing why. At least that’s the only reasonable explanation for those 2 signings in particular.

Well you wouldn't have hired Parky.

Two good seasons at Colchester isn't enough.

You need way more than that for you, surely?

Reading @Faithful Bantam@Faithful Bantam comment with regards the new CEO I'm hoping he could be in place before the January transfer window and hopefully making his statement of intent, if the new man has his plan and Stuart is not a part of it then keeping him till the end of his contract doesn't make sense.

No. Why would you say that? I was very positive about the Parkinson appointment and one of the few people on C&B who gave him the benefit of the doubt through that first season.

Promotion to the Championship with Colchester was a massive achievement, miles in advance of anything McCall could bring to the table even now. Plus if we're calling McCalls play off loss a success why are we not doing that for Parkinson?
