Also I wouldn't surprised to see Grayson here next season just something else I have heard.

If Grayson stays next season then I'll be optimistic, as it surely means he's been given a good budget

If he is staying they should announce it day after the price rise for ST.

    Interesting post
Wyke and possibly young Robinson are our ONLY saleable assets but worth nowhere near enough to sustain us. if we sell them then an already depleted team will be made worse can't see any proven player signing for what we are reputed to offer players. If as reported Edin is looking in Germany for investors this is wrong we need if such a person exists a local man at the helm. 15-16k season tickets just shows how out of touch the club are with the fan base my guess would be closer to 12k which I feel has to be used to sort the pitch rather than player budget. Rumours that next years ST revenue is needed to sustain us for the rest of this season is extremely worrying.
All in all a very interesting time coming up

People keep talking as if a 15% reduction in season tickets sold can be matched by the price increase to leave a broadly similar budget. The trouble is that commercial revenues (sponsorships, catering, merchandise sales, etc.) tend to match attendances so they will also fall and will no longer cover overheads so it is likely some money will have to come out of ticket sales to cover that, resulting in a lower playing budget. Even if we optimistically get to 15-16k tickets on slightly higher prices, we are still likely to end up with a weaker playing budget. Less than 15k and the playing budget is likely to drop into the lower half of League 1 clubs due to our higher overheads.

All this talk of directors not putting more money in is worrying. It was always needed. I read somewhere several weeks ago that a typical League 1 club loses £500k per year. This ties in with what Edin said about the club losing about £700k before cup runs. The directors will have to put money in very quickly to stop the club going bust without windfalls - even on strong season ticket sales. Presumably, lower ticket sale for next year would see an even bigger loss. The team budget could be chopped back very sharply indeed if no fresh money is put in to keep things going, as a similar playing budget would likely lead to a loss nearer £1m.

Attempting to run a club at breakeven would normally quickly see a club relegated from League 1 and above. I hope the directors realised this when they bought the club. Even in League 2 you'd have to compete with clubs typically running at a loss of about £200k probably - and City would have higher overheads than most. Unfortunately, you have to put extra money in to be competitive if everyone else is doing it. I hope the directors knew this when they bought the club but one doesn't really get that impression. We were very lucky with league form, cup runs, transfers and TV money in the years before they took over. It could not go on forever and fresh subsidy will be needed pretty quickly, just like most other English League clubs. That's why football clubs are usually bought by people with deep pockets. Some are deep enough to support an ego trip that lasts a while and some discover showing off is more expensive than they thought!

All that is true and I agree it is worrying. We do have payments for Nahki to come and if we do well we well and say we average a thousand more paying on the gate over the season we won’t be to far away

I would think a massive loss
Really don't think they went in to it as well as they should
A dodgy pitch that was only going to get worse
A manager whether we like it or not pulled us up by the boot laces when we were on our arses not secured
An aging squad that obviously needed investment to maintain progress etc etc
Surely they must have seen all this prior to the takeover
Most fans knew this without the luxury of 12 months Due Dilligence
    "Canny" indeed

We were one of only a few teams with little or no ageing debt

    Very optimistic Park !!!!!
To get another thousand paying on the gate we first have to provide a product to watch
Without Wyke and Robinson (who to be fair have been average lately) who and what are they paying to watch. Thursday's (crowd ??) should tell anybody that This club needs some pretty serious FIRST TEAM investment quickly or I can see us on the slippery slope to goodness knows where

I do agree with what you say which is why I think most of our recruitment will be loans but with only 11.000 tickets sold a team doing well should be able to bring a fair amount of money through the gate

Love the optimism but what quality of loan players are we likely to attract with our reported pay structure unless the parent club help us out. Bridges at Burnley and West Ham appear to be well and truly burnt
Oh for another pair like Burke and Cullen

Pretty much agree with what you have written on this thread. Its simple economics really. Wasn't it a £700,000 operating loss last year? This season we either work with a reduced budget or the club will operate at a loss without the owners propping up the shortfall. Or the club operates with structured debt which isn't as bad as it seems. as it stands with the playing squad we have one or two players who could generate income. All depends in reality what the playing budget is for next season.

And how it is generated selling your best players isn't the answer

Well I don’t want to disclose too much, but I have now heard from several sources that it is on the cards. However, this might not happen overnight and our owners would be reluctant to sell. I suppose if we keep receiving bad news, ticket sales, sponsors etc they might. In my view they would need to invest or top up the playing budget to calm the sponsors and fans.

If a bid comes in for a player that would help strengthen a couple of positions then it would be daft to turn it down. If we have to sell that player to cover a shortfall in the budget then that is worrying as the money will not go to team building.
