So do you just purchase an Amazon Firestick and plug in to the TV

Can’t see it happening, they might do it once or twice to make an example but the criminal justice system is so badly funded they probably won’t bother.

An internet service provider is more likely to do more, especially Sky since they pay so much for the PL, I have a erm friend who had some arsey letters from Sky saying they would disconnect their internet if they didn’t stop streaming PL football (in reality league 2) from a hooky fire stick.

And I should add if you’re more computer literate than me it’s a piece of piss to get around.

I have an erm, friend that is adamant they are generic letters and it's impossible to tell whether you're streaming football or love island.

And with the dozens of legal streaming services such as Netflix in addition to gaming broadband use is already through the roof so the odd football game is hardly likely to set alarm bells ringing on the usage front.

They have more important things to do than chase after every punter streaming from a dodgy feed, I still maintain the providers will go after the odd one to make a point. The letter puts the wind up you a bit when both your incomes depend on the internet supplier playing the game though.

So, (asking for a friend, of course) is this dodgy Firestick business different from streaming via a VPN?

Yes you still have to pay for the game if you use a VPN as anyone abroad does, I don’t know how much of the income goes to the club but it’s not complete stealing like a dodgy stick is.

It's so ridiculous that people have to resort to this.
Anyone who loves going to watch live away games is going to go anyway.

I would still go to a handful of away games every season, regardless of whether I could watch them on iFollow. But there's a heap of away games that I could be legitimately paying for, thereby benefitting my club, that I would not be attending live. So I have to listen for free on the radio and neither I nor the club get maximum benefit.

I'm convinced that clubs are losing money by not allowing fans to subscribe to watch away matches on iFollow.

It’d be worth a trial period to see what happens, even if just for games over a certain distance. Interestingly you can still watch Tuesday night games without having to resort to that so they don’t care that much. It maybe something to do with FIFA or UEFA I don’t know.

The myth is that it is a UEFA ruling that no matches played between 2.45pm and 5.15pm on Saturdays can be televised. That hasn't stopped German, French and Italian clubs from televising their Saturday games.

The reality is that the FA, the FL and now the PL refused to allow Saturday games to be televised right back in the 60's. It was Bob Lord, then chairman of Burnley who got the other football club chairmen to agree not to allow TV broadcasting on Sat afternoons! They feared that TV would endanger the clubs' finances and hurt them in their pockets. Bob Lord even prohibited MoTD from being shown on TV at Turf Moor! Big clubs still seem to fear TV broadcasting and yet the experience of clubs in Germany etc don't bear that out.

The current arrangements are madness denyingmany clubs an opportunity to make some money and denying their fans the opportunity to watch their team on the box. It's about time imo the clubs had a major rethink on this.

City were very keen for i follow to continue as last season but the football authorities want to revert back to the system before last season, which is a shame as I think we’d have sold 4000 i follow passes for Exeter away. I suppose they’re worried that with the floodgates open SKY would be hyping up Liverpool v Man Utd at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon which could affect an EFL crowd on a cold winters afternoon.

Liverpool v Man Utd could be playing at the bottom of my garden, paying me to watch them with free ale and I’d still pay to watch City. Like you say, some lower league clubs are missing out on valuable revenues because of the ancient beliefs of the old farts at the EFL and FA.
