There is only 1 person in intensive care in Bradford Teaching Hospitals Trust after 1000 new Covid cases in July and 1200 in August. There will be another few thousand people that got it it but had no symptoms and did not get tested. If 1 person gets to intensive care from 3 or 4 or more thousand normal people that got infected, how many 10s of thousands of fit sportsmen/women have to test positive before one actually gets very ill?

It looks like more of the cases nowadays are 18-25 year olds hence why the hospital numbers are so low. There are some mumblings that the virus is mutating to be less deadly as well.

So in case of footballers probably all of them would have be infected for that statistical death. More than likely none would die.

 

I heard today from an authoritative source in the NHS that the virus has indeed mutated to a much less deadly form but the government don't want this to get out as it would radically change people's behaviour. The fear is that it will mutate again as winter arrives, this time to a more virulent form which would lead to a catastrophic death rate, a true second wave, especially if people have become very lax and less fearful of it. We are far from out of the woods and the next six months are crucial. It is vital that people continue to keep strictly to the guidelines.
