None, but from what we know, he didn't believe he 'knew football', think that he could implement a new model of working or meddle in footballing matters. He set a budget and let the managers and coaches get on with it. That regime did toy with a development squad for a short while, but I believe Parkinson persuaded them that the cash would be better spent on the first team squad.

They obviously didn't get everything right all the time, but you're on a hiding to nothing comparing what ML/JR achieved with Parkinson at the rudder. Compared to what we've seen since all three severed their connection with Bradford City.

I’d argue the problems started prior to Yeovil but Stuart manged to keep us going until the wheels fell off. I remember rubbishing some claims/rumours on C&B when, prior to the Fleetwood PO games, they claimed Edin was about to sack McCall. At that point, we had finished 5th and were set for the POs and a chance of promotion.

Yet Rahic STILL wanted McCall out. How much pressure must Stuart and his team have been under. I blame Edin for our failure to get promoted and the breakdown between him and McCall thereafter. Working for an egocentric owner who was just waiting for an excuse to sack you must have been soul destroying for all involved ...... (but not, it seems, for Abbott)..!

I spoke with Greg the day Stuart was sacked down at Rawdon Meadows he was pouring his heart out what a great guy he was and how he was invited to live with Stuarts family when he arrived from Coventry.
He did come across genuinely upset with the sacking of Stuart, I thought at the time a man of his standing and very close friend of McCall's he would have nothing to do with the footballing side of things under any new manager/coach (apart from his input with transfer dealings), just shows you how wrong you can judge a guy by what he says.

You joined this message board in June and have posted 40 messages, with many of them being in this thread. If this is the standard of your posting, hopefully it will be a while before you bother again.

Fans are upset that their club is being run into the ground. They are concerned in the owners’ vision and are disturbed they have appointed someone not qualified for the job. THAT IS NOT “A HYSTERICAL OVER REACTION”.

If you don’t share that view and believe we will come good, fair enough. But don’t criticise those that have genuine concerns about the direction we are going.

You claim young players won’t respknd well to booing. Do you think they would respond better from a hair-dryer style rollicking from Abbott back in the changing room? Do you really think that won’t have happened? What’s the difference between fans expressing their anger, disappointment and frustration in sound from the terraces, as opposed to the coaching team yelling verbals at them back in the changing rooms?

Greg is a 54 year old former footballer who has also acted as a manger and coach. If he leaves City, then given that young and hungry 'coaches/managers/footballers' are seeking jobs, he may find it very difficult to get another job. The number of former footballers, far exceeds the number of posts as Manager/Coach/Assistant/trainer/Scout. He has suffered significant ill health. I think a lot on here will understand that he is in a difficult position. If he can do a job, is given enough scope to get on with it, then in the capacity of scout and I guess an old hand, he probably has a lot to offer.

Yes we all need to provide for our families, it was just the way he spoke I thought he may be following Stuart out of the club at the time, who know what is required at Scunthorpe and how much say Stuart will have in bringing his own backroom staff, will that mean bringing in his own chief scout ?, watch this space I'd be very much surprised if Steve Banks doesn't follow him to Scunthorpe.

I can totally see where you are coming from. Having just sold John Hendrie to Newcastle, despite reported interest from Leeds, he came back just a few weeks later for a pre-season friendly (testimonial?)

I spoke to him during his warm up and said how pleased he had gone to Newcastle and not Leeds. His reply was something akin to him never going to play for that club.

Fast forward 12mths and who did he sign for..!

    Totally agree.
Have fans forgotten Wimbledon at home last season ?
CIty fans are fast turning into Leeds fans who think they have a divine right to win matches and get promoted.
We need to be patient and let the new players and management bed in.

None. But his partner, Rhodes had experience. And Lawn didn’t try to do it himself. He appointed managers and the likes of Baldwin, Mason.

Added to which, as a local man stepping in at time where we were desperate, he was clearly trying to help and not working out of self interest.

I didn’t agree with all that Lawn did and I was vocal at the time in stating he’d done as much as he could and we needed new owners with fresh investment. But it’s a sign of how much I fear for us under Rahic that I’d have Lawn back in a heartbeat.

If you're talking about the Parkinson years then you're dead right. If you're talking about the 3 or 4 managers before that then it's probably not quite so straight forward.

On top of the development squad we also had the Montagnee/Willy Topp debacle.

Rahic is making a mess but please do not pretend that previous owners were perfect prior to Parkinson getting them out of the shit. There were plenty of rumours of meddling, involvement in team affairs and abrasive behaviour under Lawn. Pretty much everything Rahic has done was also done under Lawn and Rhodes and a couple more negative things as well. Fortunately for them PP bailed them out at the lowest point, Rahic needs to see sense and be fortunate enough to find that saviour as well. It damn sure isn't going to be Collins.

Great post. Lawn would welcomed back with open arms. A sign of how bad things have become.

Difference being, when Parkinson said we need to drop the idea of a dev squad and invest in the 1st team instead, Lawn listened. When McCall spoke out against Rahic’s vision, he got sacked.

Rather ironic isn't it that as you say PP bailed us out, and one of the reasons R&R purchased our club was because of that very sucsess PP had brought to the club during his time at the club, yet they tried to influence PP to allow Edin input into footballing matters, these guys have learnt nothing from day one I'm afraid.

??? Isn't that what pre-season is supposed to do? Allow them time to gel and bed in? We didn't play a consistent system, many first team players, etc....how long do you give? Teams have already sacked coaches and managers because they can see no acceptable future...

There is no sign of a system, a style of play, no desire, no fight, no tactical awareness being displayed...out of 5 league games the Head Coach has said that 2 of those were unacceptable performances and the fans were right to boo....not very encouraging...

Yes we have many new players, new coaching team but I remember going to the Burnley friendly a couple of seasons ago only a few weeks after Stuart took over with a new coaching team and many new players and they already looked well drilled and coached playing a completely different style of football to Parky!! Didn't need time to gel and bed in....

Difference being we were stranding on the precipice to non-league and the chairmen didn't really have a choice. Let's hope the current owners figure it out before we get to that stage.
