Oldham have done their homework. They know about Threlkeld's injury and the inexperience of FCD so have targeted him. To be fair, when a lot of the play is targeted at you then you will have your work cut out. Under the circumstances FCD has done OK and will learn a lot from this.
Adams need to protect him with cover in front of FCD . However, with our midfield injury woes we are probably a bit unbalanced across the middle. We need to be disciplined and dig deep to see this out.bailiff bridge bantam, Botswana Bantam and bantamlad92 like this. -
Far from convincing performance but maybe the occasion got the better of a few of them as far too many of them were trying too hard and making mistakes. Still, important first win of the season under our belt with a few key players out and a fantastic atmosphere to boot so all things considered, I'm pretty happy and will enjoy my evening.

Oldham were good today and so were we defensively we were excellent. We lacked a bit of bite in midfield but still created a lot of chances Angol and Gillead stood out

Thought Evans was doing pretty well. Pity he picked up the injury.

Fergie when asked what was the most important quality a manager needs to win games said " Good Luck" Seems Adams might have it after today.

To be honest, i've just had a word with myself. Adams's MO is to win this division at all costs. We got three points and didn't play well. I get the feeling that we'll be seeing a lot of this over the season, and you know what? If we get promoted, we'll forget about the lucky/gotoutofjail/didntderve wins. I'll take last min penalty winners all season.
And yes, I've switched to the double IPA's.vladimir, bantamdave41 and Storck like this. -
We played well, our defence never really troubled and soaked up any pressure, Canavan was a rock and looked a class above. The formation did appear to leave us exposed on the flanks at times, our full backs had their work cut out, FCD especially. Vernan lively we needed to play more football that we did at times, gifting possession too easily and squandering chances when players better placed.
No complaints from me. a solid base to build on and a very hardworking performance with a great fighting spirit, Deserved city win even if their keeper does have crisp packet hands!Inspector, vladimir and bantamdave41 like this. -

I hope this season is different, I really do, but for the past six years or so, we just seem to turn up to games with no solid tactics. Today for example. YES WE WON. But, what information did you get from this game as to how we are set up, how we are going to play? I spent the whole of last season thinking this - what is our gameplan? What is the style of football we play?
I know it's League Two football, and maybe I am expecting something more refined than reality. But at the same time, football is a tactics game. Its a business. And it's no suprise we're still in the bottom division when we don't seem to have a plan of action.
And before anyone asks what would I do? Then I'd say, the way out of this division is to exploit the back four - because a lot of these teams have League two cloggers at the back or young fullbacks learning the game. Pace on the wings, with overlapping fullbacks crossing to an experienced centre forward - who doesn't have to be mobile, just wise enough to know his positioning, will get goals. A good passer in midfield to feed said wingers, and we're away. Centre backs don't make much difference in this division. As long as they are big and hairy arsed, then they'll do well.
A wins a win. I'm annoyed at myself for seeing faults when we got three points. I can't help itdodge33cymru, Faithful Bantam and FrenchBantam like this. -
People saying we didn’t create much? Really? When we were on the ball we looked dangerous IMO. Vernham wasted good positions several times though and Angol should have had a hat-trick before he scored the pen.
on the ball i was happy but the problem is we couldnt get the ball off them often enough. Oldham can play a bit.
i havent been that bothered by Gillead but he looked a threat today.Gardscoigne, Bronco and Keefly Bantam like this.
