What a performance that was! Not very good technically but great determination to get those 3 points! Can we build on that with another win? Forest Green are going to be up there so personally I'd take a draw. But win and we may go top. C'mon City!

Totally agree. In this League we should be aiming to win all our home games. The week after is Crewe away who are currently top, that's where we may have to settle for a point not at home.

    We want a win.

I want to see us win a league title as that's never happened in my lifetime and this season may be the best opportunity. Let's just keep the momentum going, points racking up and see where we end.

Can't grumble about our points return and the fight from the team was miles better than anything last season.

However I'd like to see our ball retention improve. Last night in the final 25 mins we were too hurried in getting rid of the ball, I don't think we made 3 or more passes successfully while in possesion.

Definitely need to keep the wins coming to maintain our momentum & confidence building, especially being at home

To only be a point off top spot after 4 games in this godforsaken league - with a newish team still gelling and a very below-par central midfield - just shows it is there for the taking

Let's be the pacesetters for a change. We just need that one missing ingredient!

Pacesetters end up dropping away. Let's be the juggernaut that cannot be stopped!

Desperately need some decent central midfielders. Devine & Palmer no way near good enough if we want the title. Last night showed that getting dominated for at least 35 minutes against a poor Stevenage side.

Not always the case Jimmy. Recent examples include Norwich & Sheffield Utd, and last years L2 champions Lincoln, who were top of the table since August!

I'd happily be the pacesetters or the juggernaut, whichever sees us promoted :)

Despite the optimism on here the season is still in the balance for me. We've put in 3 lacklustre performances against Cambridge, Grimsby and Stevenage and a poor first half display against Oldham who failed to take advantage. I'd be amazed if we went up playing the way we are.

The defence looks rock solid but the midfield looks toothless and is failing to supply a potentially dangerous front 2. Early days but I think we're a couple of quality midfield additions away from becoming promotion candidates, which hopefully we can sort out this week.

If not we look a mid table side.

Thus squad is mid table at the moment we are 3 or 4 players away from a top 3 team

    Respect to our opponent on sat;

Useless information part 94- Forest Green have the smallest settlement(nailsworth) that hosts a League club.
Run by a veggie/vegan/vulcan who is into green energy, so a club that is a little bit different from the norm.

Made the playoffs last season and also got screwed by bolton not paying £1 million fee for their star striker.
Which would of helped them re-invest in the team.
Expect this team to give us our toughest test yet, so 3 points will have to be well earned.

I believe it could well be the highest attendance that Forest Green Rovers will have played in front of in a Football League match; 13,267 is their current highest (away at Notts County).

I agree that our lack of control in midfield is concerning. However Divine is 21 and Palmer only 24, so a relatively young midfield. I suppose there is the potential for them to develop, grow in confidence. Should Reeves be able to recover and McCartan stay fit then we have a relatively young midfield that could get better. Not sure just what Colville’s best position is, ‘wide’ midfielder rather than out and out winger. Wood is coming into his own and is now 23. Anderson again is young, but seems to misfire more often than not. More of a concern is Scannell who should perhaps be doing more and Akpan who fails to ignite any enthusiasm

Agree with a lot of this. We do need a big improvement from our midfield and if strengthened in the right areas we should be confident about backing ourselves.

Ball retention has not been great and when playing 4-4-2 we are basically conceding the possession game - unless oponents match our formation. However, we have seen we don't have the personnel to deploy 4-3-3 effectively just yet.

We're winning ugly right now and I will take that but agree we could soon be found out if the midfield doesn't improve when in possession - defensively they have been pretty solid.

Our problem is midfield as everyone recognises but the problem goes deeper than that. We simply have too many midfield players who aren't good enough to play either 4-3-3 or 4-4-2. In the latter I could see Palmer being fine if he has a real hard man next to him, but in 4-4-3 we don't have fullbacks who are good enough to provide the width. In either system we need at least one player to win the ball and break up the opposition's play and at present we don't have one. Last night we just couldn't get a foothold in midfield at all, particularly after we were forced to change the system. A great win and a tribute to our determination but we have so many midfielders who simply aren't good enough. The only one who we could possibly move on is Akpan but that seems unlikely. Perhaps if we could get a couple more in some might see that their involvement is likely to be limited and look to move on but I'm not holding my breath. The signing of the mediocre three continues to baffle me.

Part 94A You forgot to mention that Luke Oliver joined them after being released by City at the end of the 2013/14 season.
