Can't see him dropping Gibson from the starting line up and reading between the lines, sounds like Devine could well be involved. Think if McCartan is to feature, it will be from the bench.

It was a pleasure watching Donaldson and Vaughan today, they were both outstanding.
We also defended very well today, with O'Connor and BRE continuing their fine looking partnership. On that form, Paudie might have to wait longer than he anticipated, to make the starting X1. Good headache for Bowyer to have.
However, as we know, the midfield needs strengthening for sure. First half bypassed Palmer and Devine. Devine was much better in the 2nd half. If we are to play 4-4-2 though, we need an enforcer as one of the central midfield players to try and break play up a bit more when the opposition have it.
Nice to walk away from VP though for a change with a nice victory in the bag -
Although we won I thought we were poor up until our second goal Devine was poor and central midfield is still our weakest point, Vaughn was MOTM for me looked good at defending corners, so in a way a good win which hopefully boosts confidence

Palmer and Gibson together in midfield is asking for trouble. you'd need someone behind them in front of the defence if you're playing them two.
granted, Akpan and Anderson are crap but we'd need to put somebody in or we're getting completely battered in midfield.vin weasel and Jab88 like this. -

Although the difference on paper is just the 1 player, the formations in practice aren't the same. Not sure where 4-3-3 has come from but we're not playing it.Pineapple Salesman and Wakefield Bantam like this. -

4 4 2 is coming. Oldham will get a roasting. Life will be rosey again. Bowyer will be a hero and we will have nothing to write about.

Today I’d like to see:
O’Donnall
Mellor
Richards-Everton
P O’Conner
Henley
Scannell
Akpan
Palmer
Gibson
Donaldson
Vaughan
Despite not showing us a great deal since he signed, for now I still maintain Akpan needs to start if he’s staying. We need someone to simply sit alongside Palmer and let him get on the ball. I’m still hopeful of Anderson but him and Palmer as lone CM’s is too light for league two.
Switch back to 4-4-2 today, let the wingers get at Oldham and get some service to the front two. Sounds a very classic L.2 approach but think we need to simplify things at the moment, play players in their best positions, try get some points on the board and confidence in the squad.
If McCartan is back on the bench it at least gives us an alternative to switch things. CM is clearly our weak spot, but can’t see past Akpan and Palmer as the most suited together for now until (hopefully) new faces arrive.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse...
