So we move on to back to back Saturday home games, with Stevenage away next Tuesday night.

Oldham are coming to Valley Parade losing away to Forest Green on the opening weekend of the season registering 0 shots on target. Then followed this up with a 3-2 win against Liverpool U21 in the EFL Trophy, followed by a home loss to Crewe 1-2 and a last minute 3-2 away loss to Blackburn in the Carabao Cup.

Coming from their forum they believe they won't line up 442 but more of a 4231 http://www.owtb.co.uk/topic/51468-bradford-a/

This game itself is already feeling like a must win for some City fans who have been less than happy with the last 3 games played against Cambridge, Grimsby and PNE which have registered 2 draws and a loss.

Gary Bowyer has lined up 433 in the last 3 games and apart from dominating against Cambridge at home we have struggled to create chances and been caught out through the opposition teams wide play. The question is, does Bowyer go for a 4th game of playing 433 or does he revert to 442? If Oldham do line up 4231, then do we match them down the middle 433? or do we counter them with wingers 442?

Personally I think if Paudie O'Connor is fit, then he must replace Anthony O'Connor who was fairly woeful last night against PNE and made a school boy error for the third goal. Also I believe our best partnership at the back is POC and BRE.

I know other people will have different opinions, however my line up for this game with the players available at the time being would be,

    O'Donnell
Mellor, Paudie O'Connor, Richards-Everton, Longridge/Henley (not sure who is best yet here)
    Scannell, Palmer, Gibson, Wood/Longridge
    Donaldson, Vaughan

At the moment, I just think we need to get points on the board, so would take a 1-0 win in any fashion.

Looking at Oldham it's hard to tell how they will be mentally after losing most of their games, especially in the last minute last night, when they looked as if they were close to winning it. Will last night have crushed them or galvanised them matching a Championship club for most of the game? They have a lot of new players like us that are currently getting used to playing with each other and also have a lot of foreign imports who haven't played at this level before, so it'll be interesting to see how we do and how they do. One last point if they play David Wheater and we continue to play Doyle down the middle we will have no chance of winning anything up top. I also hope Anderson and Akpan are nowhere near the starting line up.

Palmer and Gibson together in midfield is asking for trouble. you'd need someone behind them in front of the defence if you're playing them two.

granted, Akpan and Anderson are crap but we'd need to put somebody in or we're getting completely battered in midfield.

Big game. Some of their fans think they could be in trouble this season, we can’t afford to be slipping up to crap like this. Time to start getting that winning feeling back. Hopefully with back to back wins for the first time in, forever.

It just shows how desperately short we are in midfield right now and that the team still needs lots of work. Alarmingley the players who were there to take there chance last night didn't, therefore it concerns me about how good our depth is, which it isn't.

If we don’t win this weekend I think there will be a lot of fans starting to turn, it feels a bit daft so early in the campaign but after the crap we had to deal with last season it’s hard to argue with peoples negative opinions. I’m predicting a dull 0-0 or 0-1 defeat but I hope I’m wrong.

I don't get this must play Scannell love in. He was hopeless last night and contributed virtually nothing. He occasionally has a little run that results in a corner but he never has a shot at goal and rarely gets a cross in. I believe he's had one assist since he joined us. Scannell , Doyle, Akpan are the big liabilities at this club. All three very well paid and we need to somehow offload all three of them.

2 wins in our last 12 home games against Oldham. Knew it wasn't great but blinking 'eck, time to change that stat.

    2 wins, 4 draws and 6 defeats

Lose this and GB is going to be under serious pressure from the stands, 10 games to prove, needs few a few transfer windows isn't going to wash with many unfortunately.

Can someone please tell me when we’ve played 4-3-3 this season?

I see it at least once in every thread and we haven’t played it yet! So frustrating

I agree never seen him do much. He does the same one skill down the wing and very rarely beats his man.

It’s a 4312, but the premise of the point is there’s no bloody width

Don’t dispute that but it’s not 3 up front.

Hopefully it’s 4/5/1 Saturday. With scannel and Donaldson as part of the 5 and McCarten too. But doubt he’s fit. So maybe Gibson pushed on in number 10 role to pick out Vaughan.

Not seen a game as yet but will be there Saturday would it be worth going 3-5-2/ 3-4-1-2 with Mellor and longridge as the 2 wide midfielders. Both O'connors and BRE as the 3 centre halfs. Palmer Akpan Colville in midfield Don and Vaughan upfront.

    It’s not 4-3-3 or 4-3-1-2

Last night Doyle was clearly up front on his own with no support whatsoever. It was 4-5-1.

Although they sound close enough, the formations from a tactical point of view are completely different. A 4-3-3 would see 2 wide players (width) supplying/supporting a lone striker. This is in complete contrast to our current set up (with the exception of yesterday) which is playing 2 strikers in tangent and relying on fullbacks to provide width. 4-3-3 also requires a stronger midfield and makes the Doyle role redundant.

Although the difference on paper is just the 1 player, the formations in practice aren't the same. Not sure where 4-3-3 has come from but we're not playing it.
