Despite not showing us a great deal since he signed, for now I still maintain Akpan needs to start if he’s staying. We need someone to simply sit alongside Palmer and let him get on the ball. I’m still hopeful of Anderson but him and Palmer as lone CM’s is too light for league two.

Switch back to 4-4-2 today, let the wingers get at Oldham and get some service to the front two. Sounds a very classic L.2 approach but think we need to simplify things at the moment, play players in their best positions, try get some points on the board and confidence in the squad.

If McCartan is back on the bench it at least gives us an alternative to switch things. CM is clearly our weak spot, but can’t see past Akpan and Palmer as the most suited together for now until (hopefully) new faces arrive.

 

Why Henley ahead of Longridge? From what I've heard, he showed some promise on Tuesday night, surely we need to start playing round pegs in round holes?

 

Longridge for me he looked okay on Tuesday worth giving the lad a run.

 

The way Bowyer was praising Devine in his T&A article I wouldn’t be surprised to see him starting in midfield today. Not my choice as defensive midfielder but apart from Palmer the rest are about the same standard.

Got a bad feeling Vaughan could be out today. Bowyer mentioned after Grimsby game there were a few knocks and players would be looked at. He was then not in squad at all against PNE, and when asked about players coming through that Tuesday night game okay, he said there were no injuries ‘on Tuesday’, perhaps Making a point of that? potentially hinting at an injury at Grimsby game? Could be way off the mark here, could be putting 2 + 2 = 5

Doyle wouldn't have been allowed to go if Vaughan was injured.

Now Doyle has gone I can see the team being more balanced as he was taking up a position but unable to perform. So we might see a more fluent performance today (hoping) with all players in their best position and have a real go at Oldham.

City to win 2-0

 

Really hope we go with a more regular, simple 4 4 2 formation today with Scannell starting. Dont see the point in over complicating the whole thing given the opposition. If we keep it simple and properly balanced, square pegs and all that, do the basics correctly we should be hoping for 3 points.

If he sticks to a formation with 3 up front or the diamond as some suggest, then I hope McCartan is fit and is given his chance. In addition I hope GB keeps his word and gives those under performers on Tuesday the chop.

It shouldnt have taken Doyle to leave for Bowyer to make a change that most fans could see was not getting the best out of the likes of Vaughan & Donaldson.
We look as you say a far more balanced team with Scannel wide and Gibson drifting out wide on the left.

 

Can't see him dropping Gibson from the starting line up and reading between the lines, sounds like Devine could well be involved. Think if McCartan is to feature, it will be from the bench.

 

Devine for McCartan and Gibson for Wood would be my thoughts on Bowyers starting 11.

 

McCarten in today's Yorkshire Post said to "be edging closer to fitness" so what that means is up to you, surprised if we will see him soon.
