Well let's hope that GB realises this. Maybe switch Taylor to the defensive player and let Cooke have more freedom to play a more attacking role. Seem to recall he has had a couple of decent long range shots this season so maybe if we can get him in a more forward position it may well reap rewards. Also he can pick a pass and would be able to play in Vaughan and Oteh giving them something to run on to.

I did think he was trying to get the ball, but the challenge is very clumsy.

The argument can be made that in the end he was intentionally taking out the player, which should be a red, surely.

The problem with that rule is, he doesn't have to be careful - because as long as he sets out for the ball, it doesn't matter whether or not he wipes Vaughan out.

Any right minded keeper would go for the ball, while making ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN they stop the player. You effectively can't lose with the wording of the rule. Whereas as it was, the ball is the priority, not the player.

Not sure that we ‘starved Newport of the ball’? Even if l have no different stats, then those figures below, which are probably more objective than my own recollections, suggest that despite Reeves we only just had more of the ball.

Out of curiosity, NM ….. Do you (or others) know of instances where a 'keeper has been given a RED, and the double jeopardy rule brought into question in any appeal, and was the appeal successful ?

On what grounds is playing 5 at the back at home adventurous? They showed no attacking intent, as soon as the 1st half was finished Ismail and Connolly should've come on. Any time in our history we been in the top 7 of the league and been so unhappy? Lack of creativity is going to kill us in the long run.

I never said it was a goal scoring opportunity nor was it it violent conduct or even a serious foul. It was foul play in the box for which the ref awarded a penalty and rightly didn't book BRE. I used the BRE example as one where a foul in the box doesn't automatically give rise to a sending off.

I never said that, TGM ………. I said the 'team' - As in team sheet. I didn't know WHAT formation was going to be used at that point. Other than that - I agree with you, and how it panned out, and should have been played. :)

I didn't post that you said it, I'm pointing out in the Macclesfield game the referee deemed it was neither violent or a red with regards Rule 12, I'm agreeing with you.

They're not even the worst side to come to VP this season.

    In my opinion, Oldham.

But on the other hand, Newport were organised and hard to break down.

Oldham, after the first 20 minutes when they did indeed pose an attacking threat, didn't look like they knew what they were doing. They didn't seem to understand their own tactics, and it's notable that the players that performed better going forward but offered nothing defensively were dropped when Dino Maamria took over.

It's one thing to have a few tricks, but it doesn't make a side 'better' than a team like Newport.

Newport didn't have to be organised, we didn't turn up until they gifted us a penalty. Up until then neither team posed any sort of threat of a goal. Its games like that that make me despise lower league football. A team of hoofball cloggers against a team set up with no attacking threat.

A bit obsessed with the attacking side of things imo.

Seen plenty of games where teams cancel each other out, it doesn't mean the sides are dire.

I think I posted if Oldham could finish we might have been a couple of goals down at half time, they played some decent stuff up to the final third.........where have we heard that before.

Yeah, but there's criticizing them for coming for a point and then there's determining that they were very poor.

If they were very poor, ultimately, then they wouldn't have been difficult to break down.

Forest Green's performance was virtually identical to Newport's.

They weren't and aren't dire, because they've done the same thing game after game to other sides. Yet tactically they were the same.

I think 'hard to break down' flatters them. I mean it might be an accurate statement but we never really go the chance to find out considering we never got the ball into any dangerous areas from open play at all, and I think that was more down to our ineptitude than a stubborn newport defense.

When plymouth came here a couple of seasons ago and nicked a 0-1, they were tough to break down, with 11 men behind the ball. We had all the ball, about 20 efforts on goal but couldn't find that but of magic to get through. I didn't see that from newport.
