Amazing how quickly the games are coming now, less than 72 hours until the visit of Creepy Crawley.

I guess this fixture sticks in my mind, because of that amazing ‘incident’ nine years ago (just seems like yesterday)!

I think that some on Bantam Talk think this is a home victory banker, as Crawley are both four points and places below us, although they have game in hand.

Crawley’s good away form is fairly consistent. The table showing their away results over 4&8 games confirms they would be in the ‘play off’ places, on the basis of points gained away from home.
    upload_2022-1-26_17-30-18.png

Even looking at their combined home/away results over the last six games they would eighth (we would be sixth). They don’t score many, and have four less goals than us over the season!

In 2018, they were the lowest supported team at away fixtures, ‘Crawley were 72nd on the list with an average of 122 making it to grounds around the country on away days’. https://www.crawleyobserver.co.uk/sport/football/crawley-town-away-support-smallest-english-football-league-833061

Despite the optimism of some on here, I think the possibility of another draw, is a distinct possibility.

Please for the love of god do not let this game be as bad as the game at Crawley. Truly shocking were Bradford. Possibly worse than Carlisle....

Didn't see Cooke score as was on the way to the m23. Ironic really, 5 away games this season and ain't see a goal:neutral: scored by City.....

Should we be concerned at how excited and passionate you are for a home game against Crawley Town

Peculiar stats, Crawley appear strong first half opponents

    Screenshot_20220126_184155_com.android.chrome.jpg

Yet quite the opposite second half...

I hope it is a bad game. Its has been crap all season.

    Crawley to win by 2.

I'll sit there laughing at the team.

Their poor home form is no doubt a consequence of playing in front of MASSIVE League Two crowds. They've been averaging over two THOUSAND fans at home games, which is a ton of pressure on them lads.

This is further explained by the first half performances being strong, with the players probably unaware of the scale of the MASSIVE crowds until they've scored, and after that, clearly they fall to pieces.

    This is expert analysis.

Well we have lost only 1 at home all season so it’s unlikely

It’s going to be interesting to see how Adams tries to shoehorn Elliott into this side as neither him or Cook seem mobile enough to play the wider Angol role. Could we see a formation switch to 4-4-2 or will Elliott merely rotate.

we were poor against Walsall and the system needs changing. But we’ve brought in Pereira who is a winger and its had to see how he gets into the current side when you’ve Cooke, Daly, Vernam, Gillead already competing for three slots behind Cook.

I’d like to see him go 4-4-2 and try; Bass, Ridehalgh, Paudie, Songoo (CB), Sutton (RB), Vernam, Watt, Daly, Gillead, Cook, Elliott.

if Watt is having one of his bad games, bring on FCD and push Sutton into CM. Pereira late cameo for Gilly or Vernam.

we need Vernam in the team. He’s our fastest player and won the free kick that led to the handball that won us the pen on Tue.

The problem with going 4-4-2 is that it means Cooke misses out, unless you play him deeper in the Watt role.

Threlkeld shouldn’t be in the squad.

Don't see him going 442, it would mean that Walker, Cooke and Daly would need to be played out of position to fit in. I can't see him moving away from his favoured 4231 and Elliott has to accept that he's the back up to Cook unless he can make a real difference when coming on as a sub and earn a start. Also when Cook needs a rest we have a ready made replacement to come in.

If Crawley play the 343/3421 similar to what Rochdale did when we played them at home 1 of the midfield 2 drop back to shield the defence when they have the ball which allowed the full backs to push on to the wing back then frees 1 of the 2 wide players for the counter attack.

Christ. Completely missed him! When you say that there’s no way he’s going 4-4-2 is there, he can’t fit all the attacking midfielders in otherwise!

When all of the squad is match fit, even with a couple of long term injuries, Adams will have a number of tricky decisions to make to squeeze them all in!

Now, if Adams could turn his attention to recruiting another goal scoring striker to share the load with Cook, we'd be looking much healthier. Fat chance!

They cost money, it reminds me of when my parents sent me off to the shops with a quid. Quickly realised I wasn’t going to get what I wanted. Penny sweets for us I’m afraid!

Yeah, until the window shuts we can at least hope though.

We had a little bit from Crankshaw and possibly a saving on RODs wage if he goes to Hartlepool, but we must have spent all that on our contributions to the new loan signings?

shame we can’t cash in on Watt and use any money for a striker as we’ve Sutton, Songoo and maybe even Cooke to play Watt’s role and his consistency hasn’t been there.

I agree. As my old granddad used to say when asked for directions 'I wouldn't start from here!'. That's how I feel about our approach to building the squad. We've favoured quantity over quality and I wish better decisions had been taken before now.

It will be a good test against Crawley, another mid-table team. Anything less than an improved performance and a resounding result will undermine any residual hope of reaching a playoff place.
