I'm of the same opinion but I'd love to hear their reasoning for wanting to do an interview with Oprah when all they wanted was privacy?

What is with the emphasis on the reasoning? Do you not think it's odd a couple who wanted privacy from the media move to a different country then do an interview with Oprah?

By Christ there's some whiny twats on here. My post about Ian Wright as Oprah has been edited because someone whinged that it was racist and bigoted.
Explain to me the racism...Explain to me the bigotry.
It was a joke post pointing out the fact that she looks like him wearing a wig.

It doesn't help that it seems the woke generation are thick as shit about anything other than being woke. It was like during the heat of the Black Lives Matter protests where you saw them all blaming Britain for 'Black Peoples lives being shit' when if they half a brain cell and spent just a short period of time researching they would know they have Britain to thank for not still being slaves. Shouting racism and accusing the country to have deep-seated racism is easier than engaging their brain sadly.

For anyone who doesn't know as for some reason we don't talk about it enough Slavery was outlawed in England in the 9th Century by William the Conqueror. So for a long time, the only people who might have had slaves in Britain were foreigners who brought their slaves over with them when coming to England. That ended up getting outlawed as well with a law passed that meant any Slave who stepped foot in England was instantly granted Freedom. This is all during a time where slavery was the norm through almost all the rest of the world, especially in Africa. When European traders landed in Africa looking to trade for precious metals and gems they found these large slave markets and started trading items for slaves to take to the New World. Now our hands aren't clean here, British trading companies were part of this and they went to British colonies BUT what seems to be ignored is while the likes of Portugal and France were involved at a country level shipping slaves both into their country and also to their colonies all ours was done by Private companies. The British people hated what was going on to a point where the Royal Navy was sent to Blockade Africa and treat all Slave ships (including those flying the Union Jack) as Pirate ships. It started as just a few ships as we were in the middle of a war but we ended up with a massive force out there stopping a large number of ships to a point that we forced Portugal to agree to stop trading slaves (They initially broke that agreement until we then committed more ships to blockade Brazil). We then slowly one by one got nations to agree to end the trade. Then the next step was to start working on banning the practise of slavery completely. We banned it in the British Empire bringing the colonies inline with the rest of Britain despite these colonies having strong opposition to it, this even included us taking on massive debt to buy their freedom (which we only finished paying back in 2015) and then started pressing other countries to follow our lead. Without the British people being so against slavery there is a decent chance Slavery would still be a common thing across the world, not just something that is either underground or in the Middle East.

Now that isn't saying racism doesn't exist, human nature makes us scared of what is different and we can always do better but this narrative being pushed that we are one of the most racist countries in the world and are responsible for all their hardships is just so wrong. The belief that everyone deserves basic human rights no matter skin colour is deep-rooted in us more so than people of most other countries and as a country, we did more to help minorities get their freedom and be treated better than anyone, you could even make an argument we did more to aid the civil rights movement than the individuals who are held up as architects of it

I think we have the same attitude but on the flip side I don't care about what the royal family do but I appreciate that they are actually an asset. My guess is they contribute a lot to tourism and albeit it was Trump, it showed that important international diplomats want to meet them.

As asset to who? Princess Di walking through a minefield with a crash helmet on didn't really benefit me in any way. My life wouldn't be any different if we didn't have a royal family.

You see that's the problem with what you saying. You say you don't care about the Royal Family but you obviously do, all be it in a negative way.

You're correct in that it wasn't relevant to me, just like the royal family aren't relevant to me. My family background is working class Northern England and Irish immigrants i can guarantee you the royal family have never given two shits about me or my family. I just repay the favour.

I once had to help arrange a royal visit (Liz & Phil).

That put me on the list to meet them, an offer I politely declined.

I totally agree with the thread regards "Harry and Meghan" . They wanted out because of lack of privacy and press intrusion. Yet now they will talk to anyone who will listen. Strange.

The Japs and the Yanks love the Royal Family. Nice little earner. Don't care much for them -the Royal Family that is-but they do bring in a lot of tourist money.
