It looks as though lessons have been learned with regard player recruitment - spend less on fees and more on wages, to get better players.

The likes of Hudson, Gunner, Patrick, Clare, Pybus - for that cost I’d rather take a single, strong first team player.

 

A big spanking beckons, but makes me laugh people complaining on Twitter about forking out £10 only to see the kids. We new this morning what the script was, don't go, fairly obvious what was going to happen.

 

I hope whoever agreed to this friendly is squirming now. Pointless exercise so near to start of season when we are scared to send the first team because of the artificial pitch.
This was one of the friendlies I was considering attending. Glad I stayed home to wash the cars now!

 

It’s men against boys, literally. The conference is a decent standard and it’s hard, men’s, first team football. A similar thing happens when the U23 teams play in the checkatrade.

This is a pointless fixture all ends up.

 

Not every player will be good enough for the first team but they are needed to make up a team for the players are capable of making the step up. If this is your theory for if an U21 team is good enough then all the Premier League & championship teams should get rid of theirs as the vast majority have struggled in the checkatrade which is the same division gap, i'm sure you'll see plenty of U21 teams get beaten in friendlies over a pre season.

As I say, it’s a pointless fixture. Not to judge our younger players on a single game, but very few if any of these will ever be good enough for our first team

 

The point he's making though is we can't really afford to do it, where as it's pocket change for Prem teams, so it's worth it for them as they might unearth a gem now and again.

Young side deliberately picked to see how they cope against a much more experienced team, Radio Leeds just quoted Michael Collins. He won't have been expecting this though, 4-0 now.

 

I disagree. Most clubs like to ensure their 'main eleven' have about 200 minutes spaced over 7/8 games in pre-season. Fitness is one thing - but 'match sharp' is another.

 

The defence contains 2 of our summer signings does it not?, Wood and Isherwood, presume these 2 are nowhere near the first team just yet then?

Signed more in hope than judgement. Unless we offer shorter contracts, we will bare the cost of carrying dead wood and this is counter productive. Needs a rethink really.
