I can’t see that Matt Hancock has said anything wrong, yet he’s getting stick?

There’s something of an irony to the comments of David Lammy and Dawn Butler. ‘We know there’s systemic racism in the UK’. Do we? How? The sort of systemic racism that’s prevented them reaching positions of political power and influence, and resulting in cabinet and shadow cabinets that over represent the BAME community as a % of the population? I’d love just one reporter or politician to ask these sort of questions. It’s became and established and indisputable statement, despite not only a lack of supporting evidence - but evidence to the contrary.

 

The reply wasn't aimed at you as such, more an example of how his past has for some reason been used against him.

 

Lammy and Butler are one trick pony lawyers whose whole careers are built on race baiting. Without it they gain no publicity and serve no purpose other than to antagonise. Take colour out of the equation and they have nothing to talk about.

 

A general point - and to be clear not a defence or view of the George Floyd incident itself - I don’t think his past should be any real factor in the wider discussion. I think what is relevant to the wider discussion though, is that the police won’t necessarily approach 2 identical incidents in the same way if a view of the alleged perpetrators history is available and shows very different types of individual. It’s logical to assume that the approach towards someone with a known history of violent crime will trigger a different approach from the police, some of which will be justified and some of which will be a natural human level of emotional fear and defensiveness. The point being, individuals and communities with disproportionate levels of violent crime in their history, are going to be involved with more police encounters and those encounters are likely to be more volatile.

 

Agreed. And to be honest, the racial distribution of the cabinets being in line with the wider population, taken as a measure in isolation, I don’t see as necessarily being important or even evidence of ‘good thing’. But I do think its evidence to counter the idea of systemic racism, certainly in politics.

 

I don't see things only in black and white and find that opinion offensive.

What I do see is that whenever there is an emotive subject around race, you always try to research data to back up why the racists are not actually racists at all. Why do you do that?

I've contacted the BBC this morning , i asked why they have appointed another white privillaged male to the role of Director general , i've also asked for a breakdown of the BAME community on the executive board . The BBC the flagship of diversity have not yet responded .

Does it make you racist though? No. On a dating site a woman who makes a song and dance about Caribbean food, it's not completely alien that she might also be looking for a black man with such a blatant hint.

What a numpty. The correct response to 'I like Caribbean food' is to say, I make a great jerk chicken, I could share the recipe with you. I know a fab little cafe in Undercliffe that does wicked Caribbean food, maybe I could take you.

It's not ridiculous nor is it even close to been anywhere near racist. Regardless of what you think, my point is that yet again people are getting brainwashed and you can't have a conversation about race without being called racist if they don't agree with all of your thoughts.
