I like your optimism! Especially when:
We've got a crap defence, a non existent midfield, a diamond who doesn't shine, high earners not performing and can't find a buyer for them, two players who have gone missing due to mystery illnesses, a player that can't play due to a court case hanging over his head, and a manager with a 14% win percentage leading them all. Add to that a Chairman with short arms and deep pockets, a deficit that needs paying off due to last seasons gross mismanagement, and a 2 million windfall not mentioned by the club.

We'll turn it around in the next three games! :D :D

My overall view on Gary Bowyer has not changed. He must be given time to build his team; I still believe we will have a good League season.

That said, I was bitterly disappointed by his team selection last night. It came across as a lack of respect for a competition that has meant a lot to City supporters.

What we don't know is whether Rupp and Rhodes are expecting an immediate return to L1. Of course, as fans, we all want that. But it may be that Bowyer has told them that he doesn't think it's possible with the dead wood we still have hanging around our squad. If the club's realistic target this season is to stop the slide and consolidate in mid table, until they can ship out the wasters and bring new players in, then two points from the first two games probably seems like a solid enough start to them.

If the club is playing a longer game it might explain why Bowyer is making some decisions that we don't understand - ie getting the players he wants to keep used to the system he intends to play once he can get more of his own choices in.

I may be clutching at straws here!

I watched Anderson at Oxford away. Very poor player. Not being pessimistic just saying he needs to go and an able replacement found for our misfiring midfield.

It would be great to know what are the goals this year, as I was truly miffed at last nights selections. I presume GB knows full well, last season left overs cannot be served up again to the fans! If the JR/SR and GB, are playing the long game, they are literally hanging GB out to dry, as every-time he selects Akpan , Anderson and Doyle, he is going to get it in the neck on team selection and tactics!

We need some open communication here.

I thought Anderson showed signs of improvement at the end of last season, but thus far he's been poor. His distribution last night was awful. I lost count of the misplaced passes. He's not good enough, but at least he gets stuck in. Akpan was a total disgrace last night. I was watching him closely. He made no effort or impression on the game and seemed to be actively moving away from areas where he could get involved.

The only explanation I can offer for last night selections is that he sees his first choice league team options as paper thin and was protecting as many of them as possible from injury.

The aim is always to finish first. In any league you are in. It’s not always realistic but you have to have some ambition. Football is about winners and losers.

First aim is always first. We can finish in top 3 and not have to worry about the play off lottery again. That would be nice.

Bowyer needs to get onto signings this week if he feels we need them. Feel like we are waiting and it will soon be 2nd September and our chance has gone.

    You're clutching mate.

The aim is promotion make no mistake about that.

If the aim was to settle the ship and rebuild then Bowyer wouldn't be manager.

If that happens, and September the third arrives with no new players through the door, the optimism in the stands will drop considerably - and we all know (including the chairman) what happened last time. My worry is that Rupp only acted when Rahic told him to. This time he seems to be a bit of a deer in the headlights. What's Rhodes doing? Is he still even here? Someone - and I thought Bowyer would be doing this on a daily basis, unless he really is blind - should be in Rupps ear telling him the repercussions (on every level) of not getting his wallet out.

So we're a big club but on a post on this very thread we have someone claiming a point at Grimsby was 'good'. Its that sort of mentality that sees you wallow in the shitpool of league 2.

Of course. However words don’t cost anything, it’s how you apply yourself as a club and back it up with appropriate investment. Most of the budget is taken up with last seasons failures. So what do you do ?

We are a big club for L2 agreed
However we are only as good as the 11 players and the formation on the pitch
A big club grows and is defined by results on the pitch so far we are minnows

It wasn't the worst considering the start they've had, I see they won against Donny last night. If we can start throwing some away wins in with the draws and picking up 3 points AT home I think we'll be ok.

Exactly some on here think we should only have to turn up to win games. We are where we are and in this league it’s a battle Grimsby have won both their other games and Cambridge are unbeaten and won away last night at a good championship side. Our formation and team selection hasn’t been great so far and withe possession we had over Cambridge should have brought us three points but a point at Grimsby was a decent point but only if go on and beat Oldham

Yes those players you mention are still here but he has no obligation to pick them!!!
He chose to sign Anderson and he chooses to keep picking Doyle and AOC.
So where does the blame lie?
He had all summer to bring in his own players yet he’s persisting with the same shite that got us relegated.

seen as he had mentioned that cup run many times in the build up made it even more baffling as to how we lined up and played.

Well after reading that thats me convinced. I must have been at three entirely different games this season judging on my thoughts. I'm still struggling to remember the last time we actually played well. And saying a point at Grimsby is good suggests it was a merited performance. It wasn't. The game was sub standard football for most of the game. read the comments of the opposition we have played so far, all three clubs fans have said we are a poor side. No rose tinted specs on, just a general view on the team they have played on the day. As it currently stands this club is mid table at best in league 2. Is that really what sort of aspirations a 'big club' should have? Have we really fallen that far that we are gauging our performances on a 'well earned point' at Grimsby?
Lets see what Saturday brings and i'm looking at the performance as much as the result. because if we show signs of improvement with players in positions that suit them but only draw then i'll accept that. But don't tell me that point at Grimsby was a good one, they were arguably the better side.
