Gary Bowyer - when do we judge?

It's not been good enough but to take points from two games isn't a complete failure and previous promotion campaigns by other teams have started worse. It's an over reaction because we're a big club in league two and folk think we are going to steam roll teams straight away, I think we'll gradually turn the gears as we go through the season with a couple of extra bodies coming in.

 

Im not saying sack him. 10 games is the point when we will see if the newer players have taken his methods on board. Its the players from last season that show he hasn't improved them.

 

You quoted a post about me being ashamed regards people calling for the managers head so I assumed you agreed. But I agree with what you've posted above.

 

I don't think we will go down but its going to be a up and down season I tell thee.....

 

Typical City fans. Lap up any propaganda in pre season and then call for the managers head 2 league games into the season.

Is it an issue he has created or did we just not get our first targets like we did in attack and defence?

 

Whilst I agree that it's too early to judge as yet but you have to admit the signs are worrying
What is your definition of a "big club" Size of the ground (not ours) attendances (cheap season tickets) it's hard to define a big club We are where we are for reasons well documented and the recovery has to start somewhere Some on here say judge after 10 games that's 30 points that are effectively in limbo and would be very difficult to pull back
GB record is so far not impressive and not just this season football chairman in every league face the same dilemma every season when to change the manager there is no right or wrong timeline to this every situation is different Lets hope the next 3 games produce 9 points and we will all look back on this thread as a knee jerk reaction

We simply can’t afford another sacking, in any sense. We have to be prepared to ride over a few bumps. We can’t kee starting again. This summer was the first chance Bowyer had to shape his squad and let’s be honest, much of the shite from last season is still here. Once Akpan, Doyle, Riley and AOC go, that’s probably 12-15 grand a week in wages. That’s 6-8 players at this level, and that’s what’s needed, although 3 of quality will make a big difference to us.

I’m behind bowyer. But he needs to stop making life harder than it needs to be by playing a balanced side in a sensible formation, and hopefully by taking Jermaine Anderson and Hope Akpan for a long walk into the woods before coming back alone.

If he persists with the daft formations for another three or four games and results don’t pick up, I’ll start to be more critical.

 

Definition about big club doesn't really matter in league 2 does it? Whichever way you look at it... Attendance, ground, budget etc etc we are a big club and I'm always positive people are taking that for granted that we should hammer teams. Maybe people forget our last spell in L2? Even 10 games in if we are clicking it is enough to still get promotion i.e Barnsley a couple of years back.

 

We drew at Grimsby who beat Doncaster last night and won their opening games as well Cambridge are unbeaten as well and won away at Brentford last night . Yes we should have beaten Cambridge but a point at Grimsby was a good one. To call for the managers head after two league games is lunacy

Grimsby - great example. No stand out individuals, just a steady 442 with decent enough players across the team, playing to a coherent league 2 game plan. Direct, get it wide, get balls into the box, win your physical challenges.

If we do nothing other than play 442, with Longridge at LB and with Devine and Palmer midfield and Scannell and Ismail (or Colville if Ismail isn’t ready) our wide, I think we’ll see a better performance.

 

14 Games he's been here and we've conceded so many goals. 4-0 Preston, 4-1 Blackpool, 3 against Bristol, 2 against Scunny, 2 v Coventry - He keeps playing the wrong type of formation with the players he has. Anderson, Devine, Henley, Akpan, Doyle, AOC, Hornby, Patrick all poor. - That's eight which have come straight to my head, Bet there's at least 15 which aren't good enough.

He's been in the job six months, he's had plenty of time to address existing and new players, plenty of time to implement a playing system with the players from last season and the entire pre-season. We brought players in early for once. No excuses. Tactics, formation, team selection, excuses in interviews. Doesn't look good for me.


If the club don't bring in three midfielders, a striker and another winger then promotion hopes are over never-mind the title.

There is an issue for me already. What is our realistic goal this year? Yes we-all want to get back to where we were, but is that realistic given the burden of our players from last year? Unfortunately last years midfield is still here and showing no signs of leaving. So we have a reasonable first team defence and strike force, but one or two injuries and we are into the second 11 and clearly they are not good enough. No amount of wishing that GB can improve them will make it happen.

JR & Rupp need to have in their minds what they expect from the squad this season; it is fine lines in LG 2 whether we end up mid table and the bottom. If our highest earners will not leave, they then have to be used. This is an extremely risky stance to take, do they have a plan B? If we end up relying on Akpan, Anderson, Doyle etc., we could end up nearer the bottom.

The positive relationship that has taken place between the fans and the squad is paper thin in my view and will soon fall apart if we don’t get a team we can identify with and fully support. A fair bit of abuse was thrown at them last night, and I had hoped we had seen the end of it.

I appreciate what Stefan has done since his partner wrecked our club, but it will all be nothing if we fail to have a team that can compete, last years players cannot be redeemed in my view. So time for a serious think about how we move forward. In my view we are 3/4 players short.

 

Don't care about last season and was more or less expecting yesterdays results.

Like you I also think our opening 2 league games were uninspiring and Bowyer has to accept most of the blame due to poor tactical choices. Go figure that one out...
