Its a strange notion that some think Jonny Mac somehow cheated. There ain’t a keeper in the world at any level of football that would have gone cap in hand to the ref saying ‘ sorry ref, thats a definite goal, i cocked up.’

I've got to agree with you @Lost Mackem@Lost Mackem, it's never happened before and never will. It's not within the culture of the game to own up when it's clearly the official's fault. If the official can't do his job properly it's not up to the Goalkeeper to do it for him.

Besides, player's win bonuses are at stake, Goalkeeper's clean sheet bonuses, etc. As well as a vital 3 points and a step towards promotion.

Taking the ball to the corner, Goalkeeper's keeping on to the ball for longer than the "six second rule", players taking an age with free kicks, throw in's etc, feigning injury, cramp etc are all examples of commonly used tactics that are used by footballers every single day that are arguably more unsporting tactics than simply not doing the official's job for them.

It's like saying sorry ref it went in I used to play for them so I'd be happy to accept my mistake give them the goal...... As Jack Ross runs on pitch and says well done Jon your honesty knows no bounds.

Just got to move on from it mate, can't dwell on it. Onto the next game. We'll both have decisions like that go against us and for us, that's football.

This. Daft and embarrassing to think otherwise.

By using insults you lose respect and credibility.

Arguably, he wouldn't know if the ball had crossed the line and was trying to stop it in the same way that sometimes a fielder in cricket doesn't know if they've taken a clean catch or a rugby player diving for the corner doesn't know if they've scored a fair try. It would have happened so quickly for him he may have an idea if it was in or not but he wouldn't know for sure. "Covering up" and "deliberately deceiving" require an awareness that someone is in the wrong. I'm not sure he'd know for sure and getting up and saying "I don't know if it was in or not" to the ref, would that help? Or what about if he had said it was in but then video evidence from other cameras shows it wasn't?

Spot on. How was JM to know if the ball had truly fully gone over the line. He wouldn’t. You can see that by watching the replay. Calling him a cheat (he didnt break a single rule) and that he should be ashamed is bizarre.

More of a case of gamesmanship for me. JMac basically did what he gets paid for. Definitely over the line but we move on.
