I too have attended courses and politely asked to leave the room. I was at the game that day and in that stand. For 364 days of the year I'm fine, but on this day and if the videos come up it brings it all back. RIP to those who lost their lives and to those suffering as a result I hope the pain is getting easier. We're all with you.

At Bronco’s request, the title of this thread has been altered. Dave has taken on board the comments, about the use of the original term.

For decades City fans have been quite insular in the way the disaster has been remembered. It was a topic no one dared speak about and as we saw with the Diadora advert early 2000s that included footage, the subject is still very raw and sensitive. Understandably so, of course.
I suspect some of our younger fans look at how Hillsborough is remembered and think, 30+ years on, City should remember our disaster more openly. I don’t think they are trying to rub anyone’s face in it, as what happened that day is a big part of the club’s identity.
I am not saying I agree with hoodies and chants, with survivors still haunted by what they saw. But I do think the ‘56’ was started with good intentions - to make sure an important part of our history is never forgotten. BT did an excellent (respectful) documentary on it and there has been more press coverage, so it is a natural follow on from that.
Thoughts tonight are with those still effected to this day and who lost love ones.ModernBantam, bucksbantam, Onside and 1 other person like this. -

Why do fans have to start whinging about ‘the 56’ phrase and hoodies and chants etc? That is how some of our (often younger) fans (not me) want to remember that awful day and it’s absolutely fine.
they are paying their respects. There are more important things going on in the world more important than infighting and bitching.
the important thing is that, as fans, those who lost their lives and those were affected by the tragic events are never forgotten.

RIP to those who were lost, and my thoughts go out to all who were affected. Its purely through a quirk of fate that I wasn't there that day. I was a 5 year old kid and had been invited to a birthday party instead. Otherwise I'd have been in that stand with my Old Man. Me not being there meant he went into the Kop with his mates instead.
A horrific day thats forever etched into this club, and the City as a whole.
People remember in their own ways. There's an element of the 'branding' conversation that doesn't sit well with me either, but no one has any malicious intent.Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand... -

A week before the match, her Grandad died in Ireland, and the funeral was 10th May. She went to Ireland for the funeral with her mum and consequently had to miss the match. Because of that, I used my season ticket for the terraces as usual.
When news filtered through to her in Belfast that fateful Saturday afternoon and realised I was safe, she went into shock thinking about the fate of her Grandad passing away. -

I was there yesterday. It was great to see so many people turn out for the memorial service. To add to the 56 minute clapping, yes I dislike it too but its not as bad as the "always remember the 56" chant that was used in previous years. I have never hated a chant more than that one

There doesn't appear to be any online coverage this year. Have tried Facebook, twitter, YouTube, radio stations.
Such as a shame as its been done so well online in the last two years.
Not sure if I've missed it or the club just decided against it but it would feel odd to stop something that they started and that was well done.Storck likes this. -
