£7 is standard fayre in sports stadiums these days for something like a beer and a burger. A pint of Carling at forest last night was £4.80, i think a pie was £2.80 if i remember (i had a beer but not the pie). Simple economics, our club has to generate as much income as it can from match days. With our tickets working out at less than 9 quid a match, a game of footy and pint and a bit to eat coming in at £16. Pretty reasonable.

You could say that about anywhere like the cinema or a concert. It's all part of the experience and the day out.

And we all know cinemas and concerts have the same problem (its about 6 quid for a box of popcorn at a cinema I believe). What I'm trying to say is, that there's no point complaining, when nearly everyone knows the problems to begin with. If you know it's going to take ages to get served, and the burger is going to be overpriced, and the beer is flat/warm, then that's your own choice.
HOWEVER, would be great for the club to try and buck the trend. Especially after they've trumpeted about it the last couple of weeks.
Speaking from personal experience - there is a huge shortage of hospitality staff at the moment. Cannot find anyone to work. Bars, restaurants, kiosks are not opening because there's no one to work them. Same goes for security companies, stewards etc. People are literally being employed via a Facebook advert, given no training, and sent to work the day they applied. I suspect that's what's happening at football grounds.

I tend to have 3 meals a day. Breakfast, Lunch and Tea or Dinner. I don’t need to eat in between. No need for burgers/pies/chips etc. If I am hungry I sometimes have some fruit and very occasionally some chocolate. So far I haven’t starved. During the week or a weekend when people aren’t at a match, how many actually need substantial food or alcohol, between 2.30 and 5.00 pm.
The food/drink kiosks are irrelevant to me.

You’re fortunate- I’m still trying to work out how one pint of beer turns into three pints of urine:tired_face:

Kids like it (matchday food) and its part of the experience for them. I suppose if you go in a group of adults the drinking, similarly, is part of the matchday experience for many - esp those who pay extra to go in the suites.

Some days you just want a little top up don’t you. I normally take my kids into Tesco near the ground beforehand to keep costs down but every now and then they’ll ask for a pie or burger and I don’t see any harm in that. Don’t drink at the ground but understand why others do. A nice cold pint should be available - or at least a bottle.

I know some fans whinge about the beer being carling or carlsberg etc - often those real ale types who think they are connoisseurs and try and convert you into drinking their expensive filth - but these teabars have to cater for the majority and the weaker 4 % lagers are better received by the majority.

people can have their £6 cans of IPA when they get home.

What nonsense. The vast majority of real ale drinkers drink standard bitters, blonde ales, IPAs etc most of the time. These are no more expensive than standard lagers. Pubs like the Corn Dolly, New Beehive, Fanny's etc sell draught real ales at less than £3-50 a pint. Good bottles from the likes of Taylor's, Marston's, Sam Smith's, Saltaire Brewery, Greene King, Bass, Courage, Wells, Shepard Neame, and many more besides, are widely available from supermarkets at 4 for £6. Of course you can pay ridiculous prices for excessively strong, trendy 'craft ales' from small independent breweries if you must, but it's entirely unnecessary to do so to drink decent beer.
Personally, I've never seen the attraction of standing in a sterile concrete aircraft hanger to drink beer before a match, or at half time, regardless of what beer is served. I'd much rather do so in the comfort of a pub. But there's no reason why the club couldn't stock a couple of reasonable bottled non lager beers and sell them at similar price to the Carling.

I can’t remember the last time a bottle of coke cost less than £2 in a football ground or any other sports venue for that matter.

I struggle to see how someone could manage 3 pints in the half time interval and not spend 90% of the second half in the loo.....:(

Why were most of the drink and food kiosks closed in the lower kop.

Big queues causing unnecessary congestion at the one near the entrance, very poor.

All this talk of back your bantams and get behind the side for the homecoming and there was that shit show yesterday. How many fans may have gone for the first time in years let alone 18 months yesterday and might not even bother coming back now? We were lucky we got the late goal, but I am sure a lot will be put off.
We have known for weeks now it would be around 17k. How didn’t anyone at the club think we need staff and kiosks to match the demand.
It’s ok sparks saying he will look into it but it was a massive chance missed yesterday and you know we’ve only had about 6 months to know what was happening. Dire

There's a right snobbery amongst the real ale mob sometimes. If you don't want to drink or eat a ground then, as Ricky Gervais alludes to with his guitar lessons scenario, simply move on, it's not for you. But just as it is with other leisure based entertainment industries, it is important to a huge number of sporting clubs and their respective fans. If it wasn't it simply wouldn't exist as a service. And for that service to give optimum profit for its members it needs to be a service that appeals to the majority of fans, usually a service run by minimum wage staff. I expect Ryan and his staff will have looked at all avenues when it comes to food and beverage, what we have on offer will be a product of those staff discussions.

Don't know why they don't put a few vending machines scattered around the ground as it would ease the queues a bit you'd think.
