More waterways than fishing, but as anyone done any barging or boating breaks?
For some odd reason ive always fancied it, but never bothered as yet due to kids ages (9,11). They are at the age now where they would probably help out or just disappear with a device so im thinking about doing it.
Couple of things im wary of, obviously the locks, id like to encounter as few as possible, and the moorings, Are they safe? The boats dont look very secure and wouldnt want encounter a deviant on whilst tied up on a canal path
Any recommendations acceptedHulmebantam and Skyebantam like this. -
I've never done it but am hooked (scuse the pun) on a couple of YouTube channels.
Search for 'Cruising the Cut' & 'Robbie Cumming'. The first is an ex journo who decided to pack work in & live on a boat & the 2nd is a guy who works and 'cruises' at the same time.
The first is a bit of a how-to guide, the 2nd a travelogue of the various places he gets to.
I've never 'done' a lock but having watched these I feel quite the expert...Dratsab taf and Skyebantam like this. -

Sounds grim, but actually it was superb. It is pretty rural, and we found some really good pubs along the way.
Pottering along at about 5 miles an hour, seeing countryside and drinking beer. What's not to like?Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...Skyebantam and millario like this. -

Once got invited by a 'mate' to spend a day on his barge. Travelled from Skipton to East Martin and back. Used me to open and close the lock gates and believe me there are a lot of them on that route!

Greetings from the River Humber.
Maritime Museum has been visited. Not as vast as the one in Liverpool but still very good.Hulmebantam and Skyebantam like this.
